Golf Update: Barclays Singapore Open set to take place in November at The Sentosa Golf Club
The Barclay’s Singapore Open that is supposed to tee off from November 11th has incremented their prize money. Increasing the sum by a full million dollars would have gotten the players, as well the fans even more enthusiastic. The players that are currently confirmed to be competing in Barclay’s Singapore open are Australian Adam Scott, Korean Ye yang, Irish Padraig Harrington, and American Phil Mickelson.
Consistently for six years, The Sentosa Golf Club has played host to Barclays Singapore open. Consequently, this year again, the serene Sentosa island will be dazzled by the charm of the elegant golfers, as they compete for six million dollar worth of prize money.
The Aforementioned players are not the only players who will try their luck for luxury, in a matter of few months- more players will be added. Not only will there more players in the Singapore Barclays but also new alterations will be made to the form of the game.
This is the second successive year that the tournament will be communally sanctioned with the Asian tour and the European tour. For the first time, two hundred and four players will play golf both on the Serapong and The Tanjong Courses. Trying their luck at both courses on the first two days, the players will then just compete on Serapong on the weekend if they are successful in making the halfway cut.
This event is really known for its grandiloquence and is an eminent Asian event. Being quoted as Asia’s richest national open, the Singapore open has been sponsored by Barclays since 2006. They are assured to benefactor this event till 2012, if not longer.
With various charismatic players being victorious on this golf course, the Singapore open has shown the world that Sentosa can most certainly host an amazing event as such. They way it accommodates the players and the fans alike. Mike Barclay, who is the CEO of the Sentosa Development Corporation, says that they are very proud to home the Singapore open and they are also very happy to flaunt their courses to the whole world.
Asian Tour Executive Chairman, Kyi Hla Han thinks that this tournament really shows the potential of Asian golf to the world and salutes the Sentosa club’s dedication to the championship. Having the best play the best, he thinks that this has become a world class championship. In his views, the increase in the tournaments purse is yet another relevant affirmation of Asian golf.

Phil Mickelson has participated in the previous three Barclays Singapore Opens. Chosen as number one for the Ryder cup event, he is certainly looking forward to the Barclay’s event. The American has won four majors in total, thirty eight US PGA tour events and he also won the US Masters championship in April.
Being the first player to win the Singapore national open in 2006, Adam Scott has an amazing record on the Serapong course. Coming close to victory in 2007, when he made it three in a row, and coming joint third in 2009, Scott is certainly looking forward to winning it again this year.
Padraig Harrington, after winning both the open championship and USPGA championship in 2008, lost by one stroke at The Barclays Singapore Open. Harrington tasted victory in 2007 and now he has absolutely entrenched himself as the East’s Exceptional golfer.
Last year, when Ian Poulter was triumphant in the Barclays tournament in Singapore, about forty thousand fans showed up to watch the English man. This year the Korean athlete Yang will be making his debut appearance at the open this year. In 2009, he became the first Asian to win a major when he beat Tiger Woods in the last round of USPGA.
This event was not played between 2002 and 2004, but due to the support of Sentosa and commitment of the World sport group, it was again added to the Asian tour schedule in 2005. With a breath-taking field and remarkable conditions, the 47th edition of the Barclay’s Singapore open is definitely an event to look forward to.
