Golf Update: Branden Grace leads the Africa Open-Round 2
After a foggy first day, the Africa Open commenced with its second round today at the East London Golf Course.
The second round leader board is currently in the hands of Branden Grace with a minus 10 while the men in contention are regarded as Elliot Saltman and Charl Schwartzel after a par of minus 10 and minus 7.
According to the latest reports, Grace has managed to play a notch below his previous round’s score and has recorded a total score of 69 in his scorecard. The South African contested the first round leader’s pace and played a much better outbound as compared
to the inbound.
The first round leader board was ruled by Brandon Pieters who led the competitive cult with a score of 66. The 34-year-old carded a total of 5 back to back birdies that handed him a brilliant first round lead at the € 158,500 race.
As for Grace, the 22-year-old golfer turned professional in the year 2007 and is currently on the Sunshine Tour. Grace filled his front nine bucket with a total of 4 birdies, which halved in occurrence from hole number 5 onwards.
With the second round beginning with two pars, the 3rd and 4th holes handed Grace 2 birdies. He again replicated his strokes at the 6th and 7th holes for 2 more birdies, ending with a 33.
At the back nine, the young golfer started with a blast of 2 more birdies from hole number 10 and 11. The 22-year-old however failed to maintain consistency and added two bogeys from the last two holes to his score card. The golfer carded one bogey at the
16th hole while the second bogey was recorded at the 18th hole, and concluding his inbound play with a 36.
Grace therefore stands at the apex with a minus 4 from round two and a minus 6 from round one.
His total 136 strokes also include one brilliant eagle from the first round of the Africa Open that was carded at the 18th hole in the East London GC. The golfer scored two strokes better than today’s round and carded a 67.
Elliot Saltman is currently through to the 14th hole and has a minus 4 in the score card.
As for Charl Schwartzel, he has finished round two of the Africa Open and has displayed a score of 70 at the leader board. The South African carded a 69 in the first round of the event and has recorded total strokes of 139.
