Golf Update: Brian McCann shines at the Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Assistants Championship 2010.
The Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Assistants Championship was held at the Gorge Vale Golf Club on the 31st of October. Among those who shined at the leader boards, Brian McCann stood out the most in the last round and claimed $ 9,000 after the
win and an overall purse of $60,000.
The last round played by McCann ended with a 2 stroke lead over Baryn Parry. He carded a total of 66 at the end of his round with a 6 under. His game is labelled as near to being Flawless.
The golfer from Mississauga initiated the event’s final round, while standing two paces behind parry. He made a great start and under took a nine-hole turn with the Bryn Parry. Parry is a two time champion of this event.
Brian McCann played the member’s role for the Canadian Tour from the year 1999 to 2003. After 2003, the thirty five year old played the Nationwide Tour on 2008 and 2009. McCann is also the money winner on the Tour of Great Lakes.
The thirty five year old gathered a total of 4 birdies after the first nine holes. At the end of his three rounds, McCann has gathered two more birdies and seven pars on the back nine. The man from Mississauga ended up his three-day play with a total of
202 with a 14 under in hands.
However, the last hole played by the thirty five year old wasn’t all-that impressive. At the 18th hole, McCann’s ball decided to pay the bunker a visit. In R4, McCann saw his ball hit the bunker and blamed it on the last-hole-pressure. McCann
was sure of the victory even if he attained a bogey on the way. In the three rounds he played, the man from Mississauga was able to miss only 4 greens and this was his first bunker shot.
According to critics, the thirty five year old has been able to play a very sturdy game and played the bunker shot brilliantly in the end. After the ball landed in the bunker, McCann played the ball a foot short of the hole. His careful shot enabled the
thirty five year old to play a mere push by his putter to claim the championship.
A tetra-combo ended up at the third place. Dave Levesque, Phil Jonas, Jamie Kureluk and Ed Maunder all ended up at the third spot in the effort to reach first place.
For the tenth place, Germain Francoeur, Shingo Akizuki and Matt Palsenbarg tied with each other. Francoeur is a top Isander from Gorge, Palsenbarg is from Surrey and Akizuki is from Richmond.
Critics say that the thirty five year old played a solid game of golf. If Parry’s game is dissected, his small lame-shot misses had led him to lose his grip on the tournament. McCann, however, didn’t have those shots and saved himself from the 5 hole misery
Parry had to go through.
For McCann, next is the qualifying school, but apparently the thirty five year old won’t be attending it. He places his two little kids with more importance and won’t be going to the PGA Q-school.
With a total of 212 on the leader boards, Gordy Scott finished his game with a 67 5 under.
The winner of the tournament is an Ontario well known. In all parts of the provinces, his victories speak for themselves and place him at the top of the money list. He became a part of the PGA Ontario this year with the aid of the Tournament player division
leading him to work at The Academy of BraeBen.
