Golf Update: Caroline Bon turns pro
New Zealand’s Caroline Bon who was facing trouble in retaining the European tour card will be turning pro.
In golf, professional is a rank given to a golfer who charges an appearance fee for a tournament. Bon no longer has to worry about the European tour card.
The Northlander addressed a press conference in Melbourne in which she gave the big news. She said, “Pro is in the pipe line. I hope that things are going to be ok. Lots of tournaments have been lined up for this season and I’ll try polishing my game for
the future.”
The 24-year-old will be joining the Australian Ladies Professional Golf soon. She will appear in her debut professional event in Tasman before returning home for the New Zealand Women's Open.
Bon, who represented New Zealand at 2010 Espirito Santo women's team world championships in Argentina, struggled throughout the year. She failed to get the European card, which would have allowed her to compete in all the events taking place in the season.
Although she made it into the final round of second stage of qualifying school by finishing in top fifty players, she could not savour a Ladies European Tour card. To get the card, a player has to finish in the top 30s, which she failed to do so.
Despite that, she got a conditional entry into Ladies European Tour, as she was the winner of national amateur title. Expressing her views, Bon said, “I have come up with a plan for me to continue growing in my game of golf. This is to turn professional
and play in as many events as possible against strong competitors. I believe that my confidence and game will improve as I become more comfortable playing in big events."
