Golf Update: Chamber Bay, the new host for the US Open 2015
US amateur ended this Sunday on the course of Chamber Bays leaving the US golf association very happy over the fulfilment of the conditions out forward on a very short notice.
The US amateur championship which started on 26th August ended on 29th of the same month with the winner Peter Uihlein. Other than the winner, another person was very happy and that was the director of rules and competition Mr. Mike Davis. Talking to the media, he said that he did not knew what to expect from the venue as the notice given to the authorities was for a very short period of time. Although he had some pre conceived idea of how the Chamber Bay was to respond but he was not ready to get surprised.
Mike Davis is responsible for developing the setup at a course that is used as a standard at the U.S. Open and after witnessing the amount of challenge that was given to the players on the sloped greens and the difficult fairways; Davis is very excited over the event that is going to be hosted here after five years. Just for the sake of information, it is the US Open 2015 that has been decided to be hosted here. According to Davis, the entire set up is a complete package of fun and they way it turns a patient and calm player into a head banging freak, is the most fascinating feature of the linked course.
Moreover, the winner of the event Peter Uihlein had same views and the word he used to describe the whole experience was “fun”. Well it was fun for him, as he made it through the four day session in a fine manner. According to the analysts, the course of chamber bay is one of the most difficult courses and making a shot right at the pin was a premium but even then dozen of players finished the final round with par, which of course was not a satisfactory result. However, it signifies one thing and that is the contenders of the US open should start working on their putting and swings or else they will not be seen on the leader board.
Even the champion of the event, Uihlein was not delivering the perfect game. Firstly, he faced some serious amount of challenge on Sunday from his playoff mate David Chung and then it was the downhill putt on the twelfth hole with a par four. Although the easiest strategy to cope with the hole was to drive the ball up the hill and then follow the second shot into the pin. However, for Peter Uihlein, the second shot went bad and he saw the ball leaning an inch backwards only few meters away from the pin. At this shot, an expert said that, by aiming the shot to hit the flag did not necessary mean that the player would get near to the flag. To reach the pin a player needs to use the slopes more creatively and aim the shot with an accurate spin and height or else the ball will get out of control.
Coming back to the real story, Chambers Bay is going to host the US Open 2015 and for that, certain changes will be bought in the course. Although the hard, brown fairways and greens are enough to give players a healthy challenge but still the grass at Chambers bay needs sufficient water supply so that the stroke play portion does not gets out of hand. Secondly, few fairways need to get narrow and few need widening.
Well this is it for the report that was presented by the director of rules and competition Mr. Mike Davis after attending the US Amateur which ended on Sunday at the Chambers Bay. The venue will be hosting the US Open 2015 and for that, few changes need to be incorporated. To see what difference is bought to the greens of the Chambers Bay, one has to wait for the five year span to pass, so till then let’s watch more Golf.
