Golf Update: Davie Town Council faces a threat of lawsuit in purchase of the Arrowhead Golf Course
Broward County Property Appraiser Lori Parrish issued a threat to Davie Town Council to stop the purchase of the golf course, which neighbours him.
The town council wanted to buy the Arrowhead Golf Course in Naples Florida for $4.5 million. To their surprise, a possessive neighbour stepped in and threatened to sue them, if they executed their plan.
Although, the Town Council has not given their final verdict regarding the purchase, they will consider the pros and cons of the deal. The Council held a meeting last night and discussed their financial constraints along with the economical analysis of the
county.
As per details, the council would incur a loss of $300,000 during the first year of takeover. The golf course requires investment, which would go in running the 134-acre course. The revenues will reach the breakeven in the following year and if the financial
situation of the County improves, then only a bottom line of $150,000 is expected.
Mayor Judy Paul and Councilman Marlon Luis voted against the notion of purchasing the golf course, which already has a lawsuit in pipeline. The two protested that the cost of the deal was not in coherence with the financial status of town’s treasury. Meanwhile,
council members Susan Starkey, Caryl Hattan, and Bryan Caletka proposed a notion in the favour of the deal and said that it was worth it, as it would bring tourist and money into the county.
One of the council members Starkey said, “The County will be paying $50,000 per acre for the course, if it fulfils the requirements of perfection. The course requires investment in initial phases, but it would bring in lots of money to the town, which
is always good.”
The Arrowhead Golf Course was initially under the custody of Florida Department of Transportation since 2008, when they purchased it for $7.4 million to provide drainage for the expansion of Interstate 595.
Davie Town Council is in the process of decision making concerning the venture, but is expected to submit the final report by 2nd February. The results of the decision will give a clear idea of what is going to happen next.
