Golf Update: Dubai World Championships 2010- Pádraig Harrington is here to win the event
Pádraig Harrington wants to be a guy everybody likes to talk about and surprisingly he wants to win the Order of Merit which he knows he can’t.
The Dubai World Championship has commenced today at the Earth course, Jumeirah Golf Estates and has 60 players paired together to initiate a 30 duo brawl. From the competitive list of golfers all aiming for the win, Pádraig Harrington will be teeing off
at 11:30 GMT without his beard.
Harrington had fancied a beard which was actually a fully grown beard till Tuesday night. With Wednesday, it had disappeared with Harrington peeling off the annoyance from his face.
Harrington had easily managed to shave off his beard but what he can’t transform that easily is his European Tour.
According to the Irish Harrington, it doesn’t really harm anyone being the centre of attention. He said that sure life is much easier without it, but he fancies stuff that provides some challenges.
The thirty nine year old has won the Major championship three times in total and is now striving to bring a little bit of spice to his current tour. The 1995 turned professional has two more events to play that would conclude his 2010 season with The Dubai
World Championship starting today and an event in the event in Sun City next week.
The thirty nine year old grabbed one win last month at the Asian Tour in Malaysia but after the Johor Open, Harrington has been looking for a victory that could further his records a bit.
The golfer is currently ranked at position number 18 in the money list but where Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood have been pouncing up and down the listing with every ball they hit and every drive they play, Harrington steps into the Earth
course without any hassle of numbers. His appearance is far from the hopes of topping the Order of Merit.
According to Harrington, “I prefer tough challenges”
The Irishman said that he would rather be a golfer that everyone is talking about rather than a one who follows the easy road. He said that if his life doesn’t have any hassle in it, then there’s no point of playing in a field that can award you in several
ways.
Still, if we ignore the fact that winning this event wouldn’t get the thirty nine year old that far, Harrington enters the Dubai Championship with the goal to win. Harrington has been following a rather dried up spell in the past few weeks especially after
the Johor Open. Of course, the spell can also be traced back till the US PGA Championship that was held in the month of August in the year 2008.
According to the man who has 26 professional wins, he wants to grab the last two events of this season. His regular Tour will end in Dubai but will appear at the Sun City in the coming week. The event in Sun City is an elite invitation handed out to the
thirty nine year old that has a rather exclusive field to battle.
"Im here to win" Pádraig Harrington said.
