Golf Update: Edoardo Molinari makes his way to Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland from 2nd to 5th September, 2010
Edoardo Molinari is on cloud nine and this time he is flying all the way to the Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland, to attend the Omega European Masters which is taking place today.
Seems like the season belongs to this European Guy, as first he won the Johnnie Walker championship at the 11th hour to get the wild card from the captain Colin Mongomerie and now he is making the cut in a tournament that is being held in a course that is situated in the world’s most beautiful surrounding.
However, there are issues that the experts say might go against his favour. Firstly, he left his brother Francesco home and secondly the new venue is not Scotland, where he holds a record of remarkable performances. Now that statement is kind of mean! True the 29-year–old has a strong bond with his brother and they share fine chemistry on the field but this doesn’t mean that he is a loser without him. Secondly, regarding the location of Scotland, the venue holds great importance for the player as he won the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond in June and then recently it was the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, which he won. As a token for remembrance, the Molinari brothers are the first ones to play in the Ryder cup after Bernard and Geoff Hunt in 1963.
Talking to the press, Edoardo said that he was very excited  over making a cut to the Crans-sur-Sierre, as he was way busy with the events in the champion tour that he did not have time  for the European tour but now when he had got the invitation, he is looking forward to play in the event. He said that his brother, Francesco was taking a break before returning to the KLM open that was going to take place in Holland next week. Moreover, he added that he was not expecting   to get the wild card, as his performance in the last round of the Johnnie Walker Championship was not spectacular but his last minute birdies earned him the highest privilege.
According to the analyst, Edoardo has been improving a lot in past twelve months and this is what that got him in. Although when he began in 2009, he was standing at the 653rd spot according to the official world golf raking and in September last year he climbed his way to the 166th place, which was a huge jump and now he is standing on the 15th spot. This makes him the highest ranked contender at Omega European Masters and the most deserved after Phil Mickelson.
Talking about the top ranked champions, the winner of the US open Louis Oosthuizen will be appearing at the European masters as well and chances are that he finishes the four day session with the lowest score. As for Molinari, despite being the most deserving the chances of him making it to the top are very low. This statement is justified from the trends followed by the player. After one championship victory, he is nowhere to be seen on the leader board. Then comes the Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, the man who has never missed the cut in 22 years and even this time he is back after claiming the Wild card from Colin Montgomerie. The 46-year-old is extremely tired according to a source but even then, he is ready to seize his third victory of the season.
To give a quick recap of the news regarding Edoardo Molinari, the player will be seen at the course of Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland from 2nd to 5th September, 2010 after winning the Johnnie Walker championship at Gleneagles last week. Many big names including Phil Mickelson, Louis Oosthuizen and Miguel Angel Jimenez will be seeing charging on the linked style course surrounded by snow capped mountains of Swiss Alps. To find out what happened in the first round of the day, stay tuned!
