Golf Update: Evian Masters 2010- First day, first round
111 Beautiful women from 20 different countries started to gather together on the 20th July 2010 at the Royal Golf Club Evian France, to compete for the prize money of $3,250,000.
The event is being executed under the collaboration of LPGA and LET. It is the most expensive event after the US open .The area surrounded by the magnificent Lake Geneva is covered in pink colour, champion photos and tournament banners. This entire scenario will continue till 25th of July 2010.
The course is 6571 yards with an automatic watering system that guarantees the quality of the grass throughout the season. Its greens are known for giving a challenge to putting because of the presence of multiple slopes. It has numerous water hazards, white sand bunkers, rough ground, majestic trees and ever-changing landscape.
The weather was over cast but the course was soft because of the rain a day earlier. Morgan Pressel a 22 year old American stole the show by scoring the lowest with 6 under 66. She has been on a tour since 5 years.
According to Morgan Pressel it was the first day in the entire year that she felt confident and strong.
Melissa Reid settled in the top 44 after scoring 66 the first round of her second Evian Masters.
Kraft Nabisco Championship winner said that the monster putt which she shot from the 10th tee across the green gave her momentum and confidence. Reid has not performed well in any of the games in this season but she is on the right track. A big event like this gives a good judgment of talent across the course disregarding the difference of age and experience.
Melissa Reid is so much in love with Evian masters that she was seen in the annual soccer match against Zinedine Zidane. The event was a massive gathering of big stars and celebrities.
Another player Sun-Ju Ahn   smashed 66 and took the top position on the leader board next to Morgan Pressel and Melissa Reid. This 23 year old from Korea played tremendously good despite the overcast weather on the course especially when she had to tee off in the rain.
Two other South Korea's M.J. Hur and Song-Hee Kim finished the 1st round with 5 under67. M.J Hur smashed four birdies on the front nine holes, and a beautiful 17 foot putt on the 18th hole.
Coming to the 4 under 68 toppers on the leader board, they are Ani Tseng, Michelle Wie, Na Yeon Choi, Jeong Jang, Meena Lee, and Mi-Jeong Jeon.
Michelle Wie the all time favourite of America was back on the track after recovering from a heat stroke that caused her to quit the Wednesday pro-am. She tied for 23rd with 5-under in previous years final.
Yukari Baba, Mika Miyazato, Alexis Thompson, Suzann Pettersen and Yani Tseng were the four ladies at 3 under.  Alexis Thompson is a new face in Evian Masters. Cristie Kerr was 1 over after facing bogeys on the front nine.
Mika Miyazato the defending champion of the last year’s tournament, and the first player in 50 years to win two events of LPGA, defended her rank and her title with 5 under par last year in 2009. She birdied her way out on the first playoff hole, and finished at 14-under. She won the playoff against Sophie Gustafson. Mika Miyazato's victory last year made her the first Japanese woman to win the Evian Masters.
This was for the first day, first round of the Evian masters 2010. The day belonged to Morgan Pressel with the lowest score of the day at 6 under 66. The defending champion is in a good shape but with younger players in such tremendous energy, it is going to be a great 4 rounds tournament. Will Mika Miyazato retain her thrown or she hands it over to some other beauty, is a question yet to be answered.
