Golf Update: Falmouth High school all eager for 2 more wins.
High school athletics usually brings games like rugby, basketball, football and then sometimes, golf to many minds. At Falmouth however, this sport is seen as a top priority along with many other games of the high school. The golf team Falmouth has had a
successful record till now with a 6-3 for the post season berth.
According to the head Coach, Rich Mason, they are at the halfway point currently and love it. He says that till this point, the year has been awesome as the team has been responding to almost everything that has been coming there way with a positive approach.
The current schedule holds 16 games in its list and contains a record justification to enter in its post season event. The requirement which provides access to the tournament is a point 500 record at the season’s finale.
The coach says that their main goal was to access the post-season and they have been doing just that. Mason says that till now they haven’t been able to reach their maximum potential but provided they work hard, they could do just that.
To qualify for the post season, Falmouth only needs two more wins out of its 5 due to be played. Rich Mason seems pretty confident at this thought. He says that his team has been playing good all season and believes that they have a great shot for the countable
wins required which will be intact even if something drastic happens. Some might say that it’s a bit over-the-top approach towards a win.
The Varsity match that is due to be played includes a line-up of eight players. The team itself is seen as a mixture of seniors and juniors. The Falmouth team contains 4 seniors and 4 sophomores. Other than that, 1 junior also makes the team for a top-nine
squad.
This year, Andrew Kelly and Griffin Guerin are returning from the last season to place themselves on the senior co-captains. Other seniors of the top-nine squad are P.J. Moore and Kevin Robinson with Moore playing his first season with the varsity. Robinson
on the other hand, is one of those who have played with varsity in the last two seasons. The golfer who has played with the last three times is Justin Taylor who is a junior.
Mason says that golf is a tough game. A tennis court will always have the same lay-out in each of its game and so will the football field. Golf is different. He says that in the game of golf, each course is unique which also gives the home teams a lot of
advantage. He referred to the recent defeat they faced from the hands of Sandwich last week and said that Sandwich had the same advantage. He said that the course was tough and the players knew how to play well.
Talking a bit about the coach, he is the coach at Falmouth for the last four years. He accidently missed the post-season in his first year but made it to the next two. After his experience at the last two events, Mason says that it’s all about how you hit
your stride at the right time. He believes in one thing and that is finishing hot. The coach said that if your game ends up cold at the end of the season, then it’s not going to help you much. The coach emphasizes on the fact that all you need to do is to
end up displaying an amazing game around the mid October since that marks the end of the season.
Falmouth is currently playing against D-Y and has its coach all eager to win the play.
