Golf Update: Greenbrier Classic- Boo Weekley ends with 63 in the second round
Boo Weekley is the second best with seven-under round of 63 in the second round of Greenbrier Classic at the old White Course near White Sulphur Springs.
The player has finally put down his fishing rod to concentrate on the golf tournament although his true love remains with hunting and fishing.
The 34-year-old Boo Weekley is four strokes behind Jeff Overton and is all set to give the leader a good challenge. He birdied 7 holes whereas Jeff Overton birdied 8.Both the players had bogey less rounds and did not miss a single shot, in two days. However, Boo Weekley has duplicated his lowest score twice this year.
Just for the sake of record, Boo Weekley has hit 17 greens in regulation, 7 birdies and an aggregate of 10 under.
This country boy from Florida is very excited as he is playing again, although he is seen quite often stretching himself because of the back pain that prevails from the times when Boo Weekley was still a young boy in his 20s.
Talking about old times, Weekley remembers the same course when fans would line up behind him in several Nationwide Tour events in Bridgeport. Although he lost a playoff at the same venue at Clarksburg in 2006, it would be delightful if victory brings his fans back.
The duo of fisherman and hunter disappeared from the golf scenario because of an injury which he sustained after tearing a labrum in his left shoulder in 2009, at the TPC Sawgrass. Boo Weekley since then has a disadvantage of being sloppy at the back swings. He lost 20 pounds, but despite that, he seems to be satisfied with his 21st finish at the John Deere Classic in early July 2010.
When talking to the media reporters he said that he was concentrating on one thing at a time. He does not carry a tackle box along with his clubs anymore. However, he is not giving up his tempting hobby of fishing for golf.
Regarding his golfing achievements, Boo Weekley was a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team that has the credit of beating Europe in 2008. He is the no 19th on the PGA Tour money list with more than $2 million in prize money.
In this round, he was only one birdie behind the best. Second to him were Jim Furyk and Matt Kuchar with 7under and 2 under respectively. They do not seem to be a threat to the golfer however; Jimmy Walker was in a pace to knock Weekley off, only if he did not have two bogeys at the inward nines.
Jimmy Walker was tied up with Erik Compton for the third place at 9 under. Compton couldn't keep up with his performance in the first round that got him 63 on the scorecard. Despite that, he will be seen either on the PGA Tour or the Nationwide circuit.
Chris Stroud, Aaron Baddeley, Charles Howell III and Briny Baird were six strokes back at 5 under.
Boo Weekley has been was ranked No. 172 in the world this July. His last two major victories were in 2007 and 2008 Heritage. He is 19th on the PGA Tour money list and 45th according to the official world golf ranking. Although, he is won’t be seen quite often during this season, as he is trying to heal from his shoulder injury but he will be making his few appearances  to bring his career back on the track.
This was Boo Weekley’s performance in Fridays round of Greenbrier Classic, which is being held at the old white course in White Sulphur Springs. According to the experts, Boo has been giving a good challenge to the overnight leader Jeff Overton and chances are that the lead comes in the hands of the fisherman. Whether this opinion is right or wrong, it cannot be decided till the tournament wraps itself and declares the winner.
