Golf Update: Happenings in the week 19th-22nd August
A lot is happening in this week from the selection of the Ryder cup team to the Czech Open at the Prosper Resort in Celadna. So here is a quick but brief review of all the happenings that are taking place in this week from 19th -22nd August.
Starting with some news on the Ryder cup; it dates back to late August when Colin Montgomerie would have made a rough draft of players he wanted on his Ryder cup team, he would definitely not have considered the Swedish player Peter Hanson on the team. However, to his surprise Peter Hanson has managed to enter the second last event of the season with a golden opportunity to make a cut into the Ryder cup.
Peter Hanson and the Spanish Miguel Angel Jimenez are one of the world top 50 players who are competing in the Czech Open at the Prosper Resort in Celadna. The course on in which the event is taking place stretches at the 7,155 yard with par 72 .The courses is dominated by features like, hills with narrow fairways, rolling greens and several water hazards.
This symbolizes one thing that if, they win the tournament on Sunday, and they will be the next on the team of 12 players.
A little about Miguel Angel Jimenez; he is the co-designer of the Prosper Resort course on which the Czech Open is taking place today and he is top 8th according to the points table. He holds the record of winning the title of Dubai Desert Classic and French Open this season which mean he won twice on the European tour .Other than these achievements he is currently standing at the  29th spot  in driving accuracy, 11th spot  in putts per greens and 12th in putts per round this season. Looking at the figures one can assume that he will be one of the players to keep an eye on.
Moving to the other veteran, Peter Hanson can also jump into the 8th spot if he wins the title on Sunday, which would give him way into the European team. According to the experts, Peter Hanson can avail all his chances of winning a trophy at the Prosper Resort in Celadna keeping in view his confidence that generated after his performance at the WGC-Bridgestone invitational in Akron 14 days ago. He was one of the top performers of the show. The 32-year-old Swedish seized the eight spot, which means he out scored Phil Mickelson after a good head to head tie with the veteran. Moreover, he won the Iberdrola Open in Mallorca and after that victory he has recorded overall four top-twenty finishes in eight events. Another top 20 finish could have been added to this record, if he would have performed a little better with his putting. Peter Hanson finished with a 78 in the final round of the USPGA championship last week.
The second eye catching news is regarding Shiv Kapur, who delivered six consecutive birdies and walked into an early three-stroke lead in the first round of the Czech Open at the Prosper Resort in Celadna today.
This 28-year-old is from New Delhi and has missed his last three cuts and seven of the last nine big events but his performance at the Prosper Resort was remarkable, when he started to birdie the second hole all the way to the seventh and turned a big six under par. In the same event, Miles Tunnicliff of England posted a score of 3 under after a long famine of not finishing in top 10s since the first tournament of the season. He is down at 197th on the Tour money list, but there are very negligible chances that he will keep the performance consistent.
To sum it up, the second last event of the season has started today with Peter Hanson, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Shiv Kapur in lime limelight out of 50 players contending for the title. This is technically the last event which will decide who will make the cut in the Ryder cup and who won’t. For the ones who actually want to be a part of the European team, keep your fingers crossed.
