Golf Update: Highlights Tour Championship, last round
The FedEx cup wrapped up its final moments at the East Lake Country Club in Atlanta. Jim Furyk took the championship title followed by Luke Donald at the second position and Nick Watney and Paul Casey at the fourth.
Sunday greeted the thirty players with heavy rain. Owing to the bad weather, the results thereby, differed from the first three days making the early leaders fall to the lower side of the leader board. Jim Furyk kept steady with his scores of the previous
day and managed to finish the round with a 70. He posted three birdies and three bogeys in 18 holes to finish on par. Although, it was hard to predict his victory in the start, Furyk somehow managed to grab $11.35 million prize money. Initially, he entered
the playoffs at third in the FedEx points, but fell to the eleventh spot after getting disqualified from the Barclays, finishing 37th at the Deutsche Bank Championship and notching the 15th spot at the BMW Championship.
Occupying the second spot was the European Ryder Cup team member, Luke Donald. He entered the final round with a 71 and finished it with an equal par. He lost to Jim Furyk by one stroke after carding three birdies and three bogeys on 18 holes. The analysts
predicted him as the possible winner, and he had ample opportunities. In fact, his victory became quite evident, when he chipped in from the 17th green to earn himself an edge over his competitor, Jim Furyk. However, by the end of the closing hole, he had
lost all his chances when he saw Jim salvage the par at the 18th. The runner-up states "I wasn't really thinking about the FedEx Cup, no, I was just thinking about chasing Jim down and trying to win the tournament."
The English golfer Paul Casey had a chance to win the FedEx Cup without winning a single tournament on Tour in 2010. He rushed into the final round with a 69 and maintained it, with the help of three birdies and two bogeys. The European would have claimed
his part of the victory, if he would not have bogeyed the par-4 17th hole. He succumbed due to rain at five under par and fourth spot finish. Talking to the press, Casey said that he had no clue of his FedEx rankings and quite frankly he did not
bother, as his failure to capture the title had given him enough shock.
The lowest score achiever was Ernie Els who carded 65 after three hectic rounds of 71. He was the only player with six birdies and one bogey despite heavy rain. He claimed the prize money of $247,500 along with the FedEx pool of bonus. Kevin Streelman managed
to keep his scores consistent throughout the event. He was one of the two players to complete the entire four day session with par. His stats were 70-70-69-70.
Matt Kucher seized the 25th spot of the leader board after posting one over in the final round. The American started the FedEx playoffs with number one ranking and won the first leg at the Ridgewood Country Club. However, down the lane, his performance
has not been consistent, one reason that he lagged in the Tour Championship.
These were the highlights of the final day at the East Lake Country Club, which is stretched on a massive land area of 7319 yards. The bonus of the $10 million fell in the bag of Jim Furyk who will shortly be seen at Celtic Manor, where he will compete for
the Ryder Cup. He will be accompanied by Luke Donald, who happens to be in the European side of the team.
