Golf Update: Joe Agee Invitational witnesses IUPI leapfrogging Loyola
The 14 team Joe Agee Invitational held its last round on Sunday at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club. The event hosted by William and Mary was won by the team Old Dominion with four shots from the followers. The second place was achieved by the William and
Mary Tribe A with IUPI achieving the third after a strong line-up.
Team Old dominion, William, and Mary ‘A’ are known to be old rivals. Team Dominion played an impressive game and ended their game with a total of 578 with a plus 10 crushing their long term rivals William and Mary. The opposition still came up strong to
the Dominion with a 582 in total and a plus 14.
William and Mary team ‘B’ achieved a total of 615 with a plus 47.
The third place was attained by the team IUPI, who used a leapfrog approach to overcome team Loyola. IUPI managed to card a total of 590 and lead Loyola with one stroke that stood at 591. Team number three and four ended the last round of the Joe Agee invitational
with a plus 22 and a plus 23. IUPI played the 36 holes for a 590 scoring a 301 and a 289 in individual rounds.
IUPI included a junior and a freshman to further strengthen their line-up. Ben Engle and Juan Diego Plasencia played the role of key players in the team. Both of these players were able to display their good form and hence carded a 1 under 70 at the last
round of the event. Engle recorded a 72 in the first round and then a 70 to card a total of 142 even par. He was tied for the third place at the event which held a total of 71 players in the field.
Ben Engle played a wonderful Eagle at the two day event. The Eagle was achieved at the 15th hole with a yardage of 541 on the last day of the event.
Juan Diego Plasencia on the other hand collected a total of 148 and played his first round with a 78 later claiming a 70. Plasencia tied himself at the 13th place after his wonderful play.
Michael Balzer, a fellow rookie of Plasencia, played a much better first round than him. He carded the first round as 76 but later faltered to finish at a 74. He carded a total of 150 in his first career line-up appearance.
Michael Davan and Michael Powell also displayed a strong front. Davan carded a total of 152 with individually scoring a 77 and then a 75 in both rounds. Powell carded a 158 after scoring a 76 and then an 82.
IUPI will be playing their final event of this season on the 18th and 19th of October. The season finale is the Dayton Fall Invitational and will be held in Kettering’s NRC South course.
