Golf Update: Kaymer at the top in Dubai World Championships 2010
Martin Kaymer leads the race to Dubai World Championship despite sitting home, while UBS Hong Kong Open was at progress in Asia.
Clocks are ticking towards the finale of the European tour 2010 and despite all efforts; Graeme McDowell could not make it to the top. The player finished fifth after picking up two bogeys in the initial phases. However, he tried covering up for the loss
and managed four birdies, but they did no good to the man with a motive. He was seen in a red polo shirt on the last day and predictions were that the winner of the US Open would once again triumph. He opened with a 63, but could not match the scores from
the last night.
On the third number is the champion from the Ryder Cup. Lee Westwood could not make it to the venue, owing to the calf pain that has not left him alone ever since August. Westy claimed the world number one rank in late October from Tiger Woods, but was not
seen after the HSBC Champions. According to his manager, the Englishman will take the road to Dubai to fight for the massive amount of prize money. The Dubai World Championship winner will collect US$1,250,000 from the US$7,500,000 prize endowment and a seven-year
European Tour Card exemption.
Few millions behind is the younger of the Molinari brothers. Francesco was the least expected man on the list, but the Italian won the HSBC Champions title along with the prize money of € 860,153.39, which pushed him up the ladder.
Ian Poulter won the UBS Hong Kong Open and jumped in the rankings helped by the grand cheque. He is fifth on the list and very close to over ride the speculated winner. However, the current leader is not in the mood to give up the title this easily. Martin
Kaymer will be fighting for the title on Thursday knowingly that a pool of threats will be awaiting the champion.
According to the European tour website, sixty players will compete for the Championship title. These players have been ranked according to the money earned in 47 tournaments held in 26 countries. The Dubai World Championship will be staged at the Jumeirah
Golf Estates, Dubai, UAE, from November 25-28, 2010.
Apart from the competition, there will be trick shot demonstrations, playing area for kids, live musical, and variety of Food & Beverages served on the venue.
Commenting on the activities director of Dubai World Championship Colin Smith said, “This is the grand finale of the golfing calendar and a celebration of what has been an historic year for the European Tour with three Major winners and a victory for
Europe in The Ryder Cup. We believe we have something for everyone during the four days of the tournament. With season tickets free of charge we expect a record number of spectators as well as an all-star cast of players, while our musical events in the Championship
Village will ensure the party goes on long after the close of play each day.”
Dubai World Championship will mark the end of the European tour 2010. The trip started from Europe, entered into Asia, and finally reached the warm waters of Dubai. Star-studded field of top players will compete for the title. Currently, Martin Kaymer is
at the top of the ranking, with Graeme Mc Dowell chasing behind. The event will be sponsored by DP World, Rolex, Emirates and BMW; Sponsors Atlantis, CNN, The National and Polo/Ralph Lauren; and Event Supporters Dubai Duty Free, MMI, TNT and Toshiba.
According to the media reports, Kaymer will not be able to seize the top most spot in the coming weekend based on his past performance, but he will definitely try protecting an edge he possesses on the field of sixty.
