Golf Update: Kaymer wins the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
The twenty five year old talented German golfer Martin Kaymer has successfully enlarged his lead in the Race to Dubai with an astonishing final round of under par sixty six at St. Andrews and declared a three shot win in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The German showed his brilliant class and birdied the final two holes perfectly, he saw off his English arch rival Danny Willett and finished the brawl on seventeen under par two seventy one.
Performance by Kaymer at St. Andrews in Alfred Dunhill Link’s event has given the German a very strong boost for the season and his victory has conveyed a very strong message to all the other golfing aces that he is not at all an easy go for the world anymore.
This was the third for the twenty five year old German. It is also to be remembered that Kaymer snatched his first major title by winning the PGA championship. This time he was seriously challenged by the English ace performer Danny Willet.
Kaymer needed to settle the game in two to stay at under par fifteen but the German kept his nerve and continued to hole his putt to claim a two shot lead over Willet. He made an attempt to hole and successfully finished in the day in a victorious manner.
After winning the title, the German veteran expressed his views very happily and told the media that the title has given him a strong boost and it is no doubt a very special. When he was asked about the current ranking of the players, Kaymer said that to him currently Lee Westwood is playing at his best and he is the best player around. He admired his playing capability and said that Lee Westwood has been playing marvellously well from the last two years and no doubt he is currently the number one golf player around.
On the other hand, the day was not very lucky for the thirty seven year old British ace Lee Westwood, as he failed to finish in the final two. It is to be notified that Lee is currently eyeing to usurp the world number one tag from the American legend golfer Tiger Woods. To grasp the world number one spot it was mandatory for Westwood to finish the event in top two which he was unfortunately not able to do. Westwood seemed struggling and finished the day with a one over seventy three for a tie.
According to some reports, Lee is struggling to recover from his very recent calf injury and has announced that he will not participate in any of the golf event until the end of the month. When he was asked about his feelings, the Englishman told the media that the current situation and ranking is making him more frustrated and his calf injury is not allowing him play to his fullest.
The aims of thirty seven year old Englishman seem to be a little disrupted as his absence from the golf course will make him wait to grasp the top spot. As of now, it will take a span of almost three weeks for Westwood to usurp the rank from Tiger Woods, unless the American plans to enter in the upcoming HSBC Champions event in China, which will be held in the end of this month.
The English golfer John Parry also played pretty well and showed a great recovery. Parry finished with a level par seventy two for thirteen under par and remarkably snatched the third spot. The fourth spot was successfully claimed by another Englishman Gary Boyd. Gary finished pretty awesomely at sixty eight.
The victory in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has improved the ranking and confidence level of the twenty five year old German Martin Kaymer.
