Golf Update: Keegan Bradley leads the second round at Soboba Classic.
Keegan Bradley is leading the second round of the Soboba Classic which was held at the Soboba Country Club in San Jacinto California. Right now, Bradley is 5-under 66. Due to the weather, the game started a bit late. This tournament is one of the two late-season
$1M tournaments on the Nationwide Tour schedule. The leader carded four birdies in a six hole stretch to land at 11-under par before a storm arrived at the golf courses and halted the play in the second day.
The Vermont native said that once you’re in the rain delay the last thing you want is to go back on the field and do something stupid and ruin your smooth day. Keegan had to wait three hours before he went out to finish. Before going, he said that he would
have taken three pars and that is precisely what happened. Once out on the field, the St. John’s University played exactly how he had predicted and was leading one stroke ahead of B.J Staten and Scott Sterling.
Keegan Bradley is the nephew of the LPGA great Pat Bradley and turning professional was his biggest moment in golf. The best finish he had was on the Nationwide Tour in 2010, when he finished 2nd at the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic presented by
Samsung. Bradley ranks 9th in Driving distance on the Nationwide Tour.
Two time winner Hunter Haas, Daniel Summerhays, William McGirt are all tied for fourth. The Soboba Classic is one of the Tour’s richest events. The purse of this tournament is $180,000 and who ever earns this can definitely expect to be in the top 25 of
the money list. Another bonus the players are looking forward for is the PGA Tour card for next year.
"You know if you miss the cut this week it's really going to hurt you," said Bradley. "I think people who say the pressure doesn't bother them are lying. It's on your mind but you try not to think of it. This week is obviously a big week for all
of us." He tied for the third at the Albertsons Boise Open and is at number 23 on the money list right now.
These days, the weather and golf aren’t really getting along. With rain hindering the first day of the highly anticipated Ryder Cup, it seems like Mother Nature won’t even let the Soboba Classic be played as planned. A storm on Thursday morning didn’t allow
half the field to finish their first round and yesterday the heavy rain and strong winds did the same thing. Even yesterday, half the players didn’t finish round two. They will return to the course to resume play at 7.15 a.m. on Saturday. Due to the obstacles,
the field will be reduced to the low 60 and ties and third round will commence around noun.
It is not a surprise that everyone in the tournament has their eyes on the prize including the Texan B.J Staten. Staten was a play-off runner up to Jamie Lovemark at the Mexico open and is number 34 on the money list. Staten agrees that this tournament can
turn around a season or even a career even though it is so late in the season. The T57 he achieved at last week’s WNB Golf Classic in Texas was the best finish the player had in his last ten starts.
Lucky for him, yesterday, he was able to finish his day before the game got called off. He played the back nine in 5-under thirty and had achieved back to back birdies to finish his play and at one point and time was leading.  The only thing the player has
to say is that one shouldn’t bother with what’s going to happen and ponder over all the what if’s. He just wants to wait till Sunday afternoon to answer any question. Nice move there.
Hopefully, the weather will let the game continue as planned so everyone can know who is finally going to win the Soboba Classic.
