Golf Update: LPGA- Melissa says no snake can stop me from winning Suzhou-Taihu Ladies Open
Melissa Reid who was cut by a Chinese snake in Sanya Ladies Open is eyeing the Suzhou-Taihu Ladies Open, which will take place in Suzhou, China.
The English girl was playing in the second round of the tournament when she got bitten by unidentified snake. The LPGA star was given an instant treatment on the course by the paramedics of the tournament, which enabled her to continue with her game. Despite
the painful wound on her right leg, the 23-year-old carded rounds of 78-68-69 to take a share in the 16th spot.
The 2008 Rookie of the year has recovered properly and she believes that she is ready for the upcoming event, which will be staged at the Suzhou-Taihu International Golf Club.
Speaking to the press Reid said, “It’s getting better. Last week I struggled to read the greens. This week, the course looks good and the greens look good. I've been working on my putting today and it's starting to feel a lot better now.”
Last week was a similar scenario when the golfer who hails from Derbyshire was more concerned about making the cut rather than surviving the snake bite. The field was shocked to see Reid walking across the greens, while dragging her right leg along.
Reid explained the incident to the press with a smile. She said that she was about to aim her second shot on the 16th
from a gorge that she experienced a shooting pain in her leg. In response to that, she started running. Just then, her caddie alarmed her about a snake that was chasing her.  The snake was venomous according to the green keeper of the course, but it was
curable. Reid had to take 20 tablets to counter the poison of the bite, which she did. According to Reid, she was not scared about the snake, but the procedure to draw poison out of her body terrified her.
She quoted, "I was really calm. It was when they drew blood out: that was when it was the most painful. They had to shove a needle in me, because I'm not very good with blood or needles, and they shoved a needle in and tried to cut it out."
The 23-year-old demonstrated determination and strong will on the course by competing in the entire tournament. The entire field along with the doctor was suggesting her to go to the hospital, but the lady stood firm with her decision to play till the weekend.
To everyone’s surprise, she stood up and aimed her third shot at the 16th: it turned out to be a six-foot birdie. Right after that, she exclaimed that the birdie was for the six-foot long snake.
Reid is ready to make her debut in the field of 108 competitors at Suzhou-Taihu Ladies Open. According to the press releases, there will be 45 golfers from the Ladies European Tour, 22 from the Ladies Asian Golf Tour, 35 from the China Golf Association and
4 amateur invitations. Moreover, Carly Booth and Louise Stahle will be also tee off as invites.
The tournament will have a half way cut, owing to the light conditions with 60 professionals proceeding towards the finale. The weather conditions have been predicted to be cooler than last week, but the weekend will be comparatively warmer.
In a synopsis, Melissa Reid although bitten by a poisonous snake last week at Sanya Ladies Open has recovered from the trauma and is ready to conquer the par-72 course of Suzhou-Taihu International Golf Club. The 23-year-old is confident that she will seize
the upcoming title as her putting as improved after the famous snake bite. With a will of iron and heart of a soldier, who can defeat ladies like Melissa for whom no fear is threatening.
