Golf Update: Laura Davies eyes European top spot
The LPGA Player Laure Davies wants to be top of the Henderson’s money List. Being number two right now, her ultimate goal this season is to become European Number one. Even though the player didn’t participate in China for the Mission Hills Star Trophy,
she is in good form right now.
This 47-year-old Englishwoman has had many chances to become the European Number 1. Missing seven opportunities already, Davies now faces the eight opportunity to reach the epitome of European Ladies Golf. If Laura wins the Daishin Securities Tomato M Korea
European Ladies Masters and then finishes in a decent position in her last two events, she has a high possibility of achieving her dreams. The Ladies Masters will start at the Haevichi Country Club in Jeju on Friday and Laura’s last two events will take place
in India and Dubai.
Currently, Laura is at the second position right behind Lee-Anne Pace. Pace has gotten where she is due to her five wins this season. The South African player is hoping to be the first LPGA player from her country to win the Henderson Money List.
Davis on the other hand has been successful in four tournaments this year. She won in Spain, New Zealand, Germany and Austria. Even though Laura cannot catch up to the leader this week, she can come very close in the race. With three events left in her schedule
for this season, Laura is €55,962 behind Lee Anne. Davis has eyes glued to the first prize of the Masters which will be approximately €54,000.
Laura said that since she is in the second position on the list she has some ground to make up. Praising her rival, Davis said that Lee-Anne won the last tournaments in China. Looking at how things worked out for the fortunate South African, Davies is regretting
not playing in either of the events. Her decisions weren’t entirely mistaken since she had other tournaments to play in and had a different route. Lee-Anne, however, played well and truly deserves the glory.
"Now I'm behind on the money list my goal is to try and catch Lee-Anne again. I caught her in the middle of the year and now I have to try and catch her again at the end of the year.” Davies stated.
This week, she’s aiming for nothing less than trying to win the tournament. She further went on to say that
“You have to come out and try and win because I'm assuming Lee-Anne is going to play really well again and all the other girls because it's a very strong field of European and Korean players. It's going to be a big test but I have to set my sights high.”

Lee-Anne is going for her sixth win of 2010 which would be her third in the last three weeks. Obviously, she has the same goals as Davies and will not let her top position go that easily. Not being over confident, Lee-Anne said that it’s not done yet. The
finale of the season is a huge deal and a lot of things can change after it. She said in the coming couple of weeks, she has to be focused and she’ll try doing the same thing she has been doing. Her main strategy is getting up to the top early in the week
and then stay up there. She said it would be very pleasant to win another tournament but her main focus will be on hitting the fairways, the greens and obviously getting the ball as close to the hole as possible. Pace said she will attempt on making as many
birdies as she can and will try to stay away from bogeys.
European number three, Melissa Reid, is also in the chase and will try to earn her second victory of the season. She said it would be great to win the money list and it is possible is if she works hard. Reid knows she’ll have to perform really well and win
this week in order to achieve what she wants.
Being the top three, Pace, Davies and Reid will all try to win this weekend. With their main goal being the money list, this tournament will surely be an interesting one to follow.
