Golf Update: Malaysia welcomes golfers from Singapore in R1
The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic underwent its first round today in Malaysia. The event held in Kuala Lumpur is the first event to have been endorsed by the U.S. Tour and has selected a few players such as Ernie Els, Martin Laird, Ryan Palmer, Robert Allenby,
Luke Donald, Heath Slocum and Rickie Fowler to play the event.
Among those who gleamed at the all-star filed, Thongchai Jaidee and Pariya Junhasavadikul from the terra firma of Thailand shone a light of their own. The duo ended up tied at sixth place and managed to display an amazing play in R1 of the Classic.
The event is being held at the Mines Resort and Golf Club that is situated in Kuala Lumpur. The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic is one of the first events to have been sanctioned by PGA in the South East Asia.
Other than the golfers Jaidee and Junhasavadikul, their fellow compatriot Mardan Mamat also played a good game. He managed to card a remarkable collection of 2 eagles and 5 birdies and stood amidst the Thai duo.
Considering Jaidee’s performance at the event, he carried his good putt legacy and said that he played his game according to plan. The golfer explained that he managed to play good putts and his last holes have been mostly from 15 feet.
Jaidee said that the main reason he played well is because he feels very comfortable on this course. His plan for the next round is sticking to the same arrangements as round one of the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic.
Where Jaidee played his elegant shots, Junhasavadikul shots have been cut-throat jagged. According to the critics, this is because he needed to finish at the top 10 in the tournament and witnessed Junhasavadikul hitting 16 greens.
Thaworn Wiratchant and Kiradech Aphibarnrat are two more golfers from Thailand that finished their round of golf at the 29th and the 39th place respectively.
Thaworn, who is a forty three year old golfer, played a rather consistent game throughout the first round as well as this year. Among his several games, Thaworn managed to achieve 5 top-10 finishes which includes one win.
The top spot was claimed by an American golfer Ricky Barnes who managed to grab the lead with a spotless 63 with an eight under. The winner of the tournament will be taking home $1 million, whereas the last placed player will earn a dollar amount of $50,000.
