Golf Update: Matt Kuchar to be the highest ranked player in the PGA Bob Hope field
2010 PGA Tour money list leader, Matt Kuchar, will be the highest ranked player in the Bob Hope Classic taking place in California this weekend. Kuchar had an amazing year last season in which he had 11 top ten finishes and also a second place finish in
the FedEx Cup. With everything going great, Matt barely had time to look back on his 2010 year. The player was too busy moving to Sea Island, Georgia. Kuchar, who has two little boys, said that he has been really busy with settling in his new home.
This year, Matt has yet again had a good start. The 32 year old tied for sixth place at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and then tied for fifth place at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Clearly, Matt still is on top of his game and will use it to his advantage
in La Quinta this weekend. Kuchar, who also won the Barclay’s last year, is currently ranked number thirteen in the world.
Last year at the Bob Hope Classic, Kuchar closed with a 63 to tie for second place. His birdie shot on the last hole started his 2010 season on a good note. Being so close to victory, Kuchar is hoping to win the event this time.
"To follow it (2010) will be tough," Kuchar said. "But the beauty about the game of golf is there's so many areas where you can improve and get better, and I think we all as golfers, we look to always get better. Whether you're the best guy
out there or not, there's always room to improve your short game. And then certainly with ball-striking, it feels like the game of golf, you're never quite on your swing, and you work to refine it and get better and try to own it."
In 2010, Matt also had the Tour’s lowest adjusted scoring average and earned a spot on the Ryder Cup team. This year, Kuchar is eyeing the major championships and really hopes to add one of the trophies in his trophy case. In 2010, Matt made the cut in all
four majors. The player tied for sixth in the U.S Open and 10th in the PGA Championship.
Most of the top players of the PGA are skipping the Bob Hope Classic for the Abu Dhabi Championships. Along with Kuchar, Bubba Watson, Rory Sabbatini and Chad Campbell will compete for the $5 million event this weekend.
