Golf Update: McDowell planning to participate in the lucrative FedEx Cup next year
The champion of this year’s prestigious Ryder Cup, Graeme McDowell has revealed his aims and ambitions and said that he will join the U.S PGA Tour in 2011. The thirty one year old champ golfer is keen to participate in the PGA tour and is confident to display
the best from him.
The Northern Irish golfing ace, Graeme McDowell has revealed his future plans. After the Ryder Cup, the Irish is flying high as his victory against Hunter Mahan in the finals singles match in the Ryder Cup has brought the trophy to the European team.
In a very recent interview, McDowell told the media that he is planning to qualify for the bigger prize event FedEX Cup Playoffs in next year. He told the media that he is not willing to play in each and every possible golf tournament but he will try his
level best to try his luck in some of the bigger PGA events in the coming year.
McDowell played in the FedEx cup in 2006 and failed to participate in the lucrative event again because of his injury and now he is keen to stay fit and fight for his luck this time. On the other hand, McDowell’s teammate Lee Westwood is insisting to stay
at the European tour. It is to be notified that the current world number two is eyeing to usurp the world top rank from the American golfing legend Tiger Woods.
Lee’s chances of grabbing the world number one spot are very much possible if he finishes first or second in the ongoing Dunhill Links Championship, which is being held in Scotland. It is also to be remembered that Lee Westwood won the Dunhill Links Championship
title, last year as well. Finishing in the top two in Dunhill Links event will bring him at the top of the golf ranking and by doing that, Lee Westwood will become the first European golfer to reach number 1 ever since Nick Faldo, who secured the world number
rank in 1994.
The current year has been a very lucky year for the Northern Irish as he was been able to display the best of his game by finishing at the second spot in two major golf events. He expressed his aims and ambitions for the next year’s FedEx Cup and said that
he just wants to play his best and as it will commence in the summer, he will love to take a part in it.
When the Irish golfing veteran was asked about the plans of his partner Lee Westwood, the thirty one year old expressed his thoughts by saying that he will try to support Lee as much as possible. He added that he will do whatever is right for the thirty
seven year old Lee Westwood.
Westwood is currently playing in the Dunhill Links golf event in Scotland and is planning to participate in next week’s Portugal Masters golf tournament as well. When he was asked about his chances of defending the Portugal Masters title, the thirty seven
year old ace expressed his views very confidently and told the media that he wants to play at the highest level and he is very well aware of the positive aspects of his game. He added that he is ready to snatch the world number one rank from the American arch
rival Tiger Woods. He said that he has been playing perfectly well since last two years and he just wants to show the world that he is currently the best golfer in the world.
Lee and his partner Rory McIlroy will participate in the opening round at Gleneagles. On the other hand, McDowell has announced that he will play in the selective events, as he is not looking forward to risk his health due to over playing.
