Golf Update: McGowan out of the race of Ryder Cup
Ross McGowan is finally out of the list of prospect wild card picks of the captain Colin Montgomerie, whereas Francesco Molinari gets the green signal.
Much speculation was in the air of whether Francesco and Gowan will make it to the preferred wild cards of the Ryder cup or not but now, the confusion is gone, as both the players have got the final signal of either being on the race or out by the captain.
However, the remaining counting is still going on with the start of the Johnnie Walker Championship that is taking place at Gleneagles. Now the question that is hovering in the mind of people is what will happen next. Will Simon Dyson or Alvaro Quiros kick Miguel Angel Jimenez out or will Peter Hanson remain on his spot? These questions will take their turn but after Colin Montgomerie has chosen his three wild cards.
Coming to the real story, Ross McGowan finally gave up hope to make a debut in the Ryder cup, after he opened the first round of the Johnnie Walker Championship with a77. His dreams and hopes of getting the call from the captain drained after he realized that his shoulder injury which he had a month back was shaking his swings and hence spoiling his scores.
Moving to the other contestant, Francesco Molinari, who is standing safely in his place especially after he scored a four under par 68 at the championship, which means he was only two shots behind the leader o f the day, Richard Finch. Talking to the media, Molinari commented on Ross’s Performance and said that Ross was surely going out of the list for wild cards, as he started out very poor however, he felt sorry for the player who wanted the Ryder cup so badly. He further added that he was really excited for being a part of the Ryder cup team, as it was more like a dream come true especially playing next to Tiger Woods’ if he qualifies the team. Molinari had a lead in the first round of the USPGA championship that took place at the Whistling straits around two weeks back.
Moving further, Simon Dyson finished the first round with a 68 and finished in a tie for the seventh spot but in order to confirm his place in the Ryder cup automatic selection he has to win on Sunday. Moreover, the other factor he requires is Miguel Angel Jimenez not falling in the top nine and Peter Hanson in the top 43.Despite that Jimenez is standing at the top twenty ninth place of the leader board and Peter Hanson is at the eighteenth, which means Dyson can see his chances running out.
Meanwhile, Colin Montgomerie is worried as he is getting short of good players that can give a h**l of challenge to the Americans. Moreover, he is looking out for a standby if Lee Westwood does not make it to the four balls of the playoffs because of his calf injury that is persisting past one month. According to Montgomerie, never before a reserve player is taken in the team of Europe in case of emergency, although it has been happening in U.S. As for Lee Westwood, he is on a bed rest but is positive that he will make a comeback at the four ball and the foursomes before the Ryder cup. Foursomes and four balls is a physical test taken one day before the Ryder cup to verify the fitness o f a player.
To wrap it up, Ross McGowan is out of the wild card pick with a score of 77 in the first round of the Johnnie Walker Championship and Francesco Molinari has got the confirmation from the captain that will be one of the players to get the preference. At the same time, Colin Montgomerie is looking for a substitute for Lee Westwood, who might not show up at the last hour because of his calf injury.
