Golf Update: Miccosukee Championship- Keegan Bradley notches the lead in the second round
Keegan Bradley spurred lead in the second round of the Miccosukee Championship, which was taking place at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Miami, Florida. He shot a score of 67 to step into the weekend.
The tournament that started on Monday October, 14th drifted into the third rounds with outstanding scores. Nephew of Pat Bradley (LPGA player), picked up six birdies against two bogeys to close the round with a score of 67. The American teed off
from the back nine, smashing a birdie on the first hole; 10th par-5. However, he could not focus on the requirements of the next two par four holes; therefore, missed two shots, which resulted in bogeys. To counter off the evil bogeys, he ironed
two birdies in the closing holes and wrapped the midway with a score of one-under.
The front nine was on a different frequency; Bradley picked up three more power shots to offset his early holes and settled with a score of 11-under-par. He was chased by a duo of Jason Gore and David Hearn, one stroke behind.
The third spot of the leader board was taken by the first round leader, Andrew Svoboda. The 31-year-old, teed off from the back nine, but the strategy did not work in his favour. He slipped from a superb round of 63 of the first day into a 70. Svoboda failed
to match his early scores, which were based on two eagles and four birdies. The golfer who was born in St John’s started the round with a birdie in the second hole, but tripped into the trap of two bogeys. To counter off the blemishes, he picked up a birdie,
but could not sustain it and wrapped the first half with a score of one-over. The next half was comparatively better with no missed shots and a score of two-under.
A group of four players seized the fifth position with a score of eight-under; Adam Meyer (68), Scott Stalling (66), Brandt Jobe (71) and Michael Putnam (69). The player who hails from Oklahoma (Brandt Jobe) made a superb come back with nine birdies in the
first round and two in the second. Four years back, Jobe met an accident in his garage, which resulted in him losing his thumb and the index finger; two key fingers that determine a grip of the hand on the club. However, he went through a micro surgery, which
helped him regain his hand, but not his confidence.
Speaking to the press regarding his confidence Jobe said, “It's taken two years, to be honest, to get my confidence back, going into this year I didn't have a lot of confidence in what I was doing. I kind of thought if this year didn't go well, that
might be it.”
The lowest score of the day was fired by Jason Schultz. He shot 65 with the help of six birdies and no bogey. His performance was quite the opposite of the first round in which he picked up four bogeys to post a score of two- over-par.
According to the player, overcast conditions made the green soft and hence resulted in a better game. Miccosukee Golf & Country Club, which is stretched on 7200 yards, was designed with very hard greens that restricted the ball going into the hole. Normally
a hard, smooth green is preferred for putting, but for the long hitters, the hard greens possess severe damage. The long shot falls on the hard green and rolls over. Owing to the rain, the green becomes smooth and putting or wedging becomes relatively easier.
This is it for the second round of the Miccosukee Championship, which was taking place on Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Miami, Florida. The event carrying a purse of $600,000 has stepped into the third round with Keegan Bradley in the lead. The third
