Golf Update: Michelle Wie, the megastar will now shape Dubai at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
Michelle Wie will be appearing with her charismatic aura at the Emirates Golf Club. She will be teeing off on December 6th 2010 at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. Wie’s game is one of the most awaited games along with many other attractions this
spell-ending Ladies European Tour.
The six foot tall Hawaiian ended with the runner’s up position last year in Dubai. Wie at her debut carded a three shot off the pace. She was following the winner In Kyung Kim form Korea which helped her in displaying her exceptional will power and her skilful
talent, which is the most obvious threat to most players this season in Dubai.
Wie, a Stanford Sophomore, in her debut last year played an amazing game of 15 under par. She felt quiet calm and buoyant after her exam the night before and managed a stunning 65 in the final round. She raked a total of 273 in the score card which she claims
was due her hassle free mind that helped her focus on the game in a better way.
The twenty year old may have had the tournament in her hands and her chances to claim the victory weren’t austere at all but the hazards got in her way. The hole was guarded by a huge lake which overwatered Wie’s ball. She reclaimed her par however with
a recovery shot landing her ball 3 feet short of the hole. However, her salvaged shot wasn’t enough for the win.
Wie is currently at the number seven who has goals of winning the tournament which will move her up in rankings. The Stanford Sophomore is focusing on getting the job done this time around but says she can’t control all the factors. Wie says that her most
obvious goal is winning but all she can control is her hard work, her determination and her quality of game. Wie also said that apart from everything else, her major focus would be going out there and having fun.
Holding a 3-0-1 record, Wie was a captain’s pick which lead the US team to victory. In the tournament of Euro 500,000 Wie has an instrumental role with her direct swings. The twenty year old said that she has great respect for the Ladies European Tour and
admits that the level competitiveness these ladies show is second to none. She said her earlier statement is based on her hands on experience at the Solheim Cup.
Wie considers Dubai as one of the most hospitable places she knows of and is looking forward to go there. The treatment she and other players receive in Dubai by the people and the Tournament organizers is hard to match. Wie is now the first player to strike
the ball from the heights of Burj Khalifa from the 124th story and admits that the level of competition at the tournament will be high.
The Golf in Dubai is sponsored by Omega and Dubai Aluminium with the Co-sponsors CNN, wasl and Gulf news. Wie is the brand ambassador of Omega and the title Sponsor of Ladies Dubai Masters.
When Wie was asked about her shot from the 124th story, she said that she found it a bit scary but in the end, it turned out to be rather a ‘just amazing’ feeling. She said that she felt the same way when she saw all of Dubai’s attractions which
the Tournament organizers were showcasing so effectively.
Since the age of 10, Wie has been building her ever-so-impressive resume. When she was 12, she had qualified for the LPGA event and managed to qualify as the youngest player to qualify for the USGA Amateur Public Link Championship Ladies. At the age of 14,
Wie played a shot with the longest cut and was in the record books a year later after which she played the men’s Sony Open. At 20 she is already a megastar and has been included in the list of “one of the hundred people who shape our world” by the Times magazine.
