When men are smashing wonders out there, how can the LPGA players take a back seat. Michelle Wie's posted a 3-under 69 in the second round of the Canadian Women's Open that is taking place at the St. Charles Country Club , Winnipeg.
The 21-year-old could not make a hole in one but her lead of the day was enough to declare her as the winner of the day and three shots ahead of the sSouth Korean Jiyai Shin, who stood at a 67 at the end of the day.
Moving forward to the other ladies, Morgan Pressel made a 66 at the St. Charles Country Club and took the third position of the leader board with another player Suzann Pettersen. Suzzane is the 29-year-old defending champion of the tournament. Another low score of the day was of Sarah Jane Smith of Australia, who finished the day with a 66 and according to the media report; this aussie can turn out to be a huge threat for the first group leaders, as she has some excellent putting and driving skills. Smith gave a 66, which was a huge jump from her last day’s 75 and according to the player; she had been practicing with Sean Foley who helped her out with her swings. Not to forget Sean Foley is the same coach who is training Tiger Woods now days and even Tiger has shown signs of improvement.
Coming back to the leader of the day, Michelle Wie, she performed out class on the course of par 72and the best part of her performance was her eagle at the eleventh hole of the back nine, on the first day of the tournament. Just for a record never before, the number 65 has been reached in the tournament of the Canadian Women's Open, which means Wie is the first woman to set this record.
Talking to the press, Michelle Wie said that she tried giving the same eagle in the second round of the tournament but it did not work out well for her. Seems like Wie was trying to put some drama, as she did a day back but her iron did not help her. According to the experts, Michelle started out good, as she seemed confident with her last’s day 65. There was a constant smile on the face of the player, moreover the crowd was very supportive for her, as where ever she went, the fans chased her and gave applause at her shots. The overall game submitted by the 21-year –old was good however, like all players she too had a flaw and that came out at the eleventh hole, where she picked up her driver to make a long shot but got disappointed as the shot got cut in the half and resulted into a bogey.
Moving forward to Morgan Pressel, who is standing at the 3rd spot of the second day praised Michelle’s 65 and said that she had more days to go and she was confident that something spectacular could come out of the box. Pressel was one of the players who gave the spectators the feeling of being entertained, as she posted five birdies in a row at the front nine. Currently she is looking forward for the third victory in the LPGA season but her best finish includes a top two finish at the Evian Masters, which took place last month in which Jiyai Shin was the winner.
Coming to Jiyai she is ranked number forth on the World Rolex Rankings and has nine top-10 finishes this season. Regarding her current performance, she played brilliantly on the course with accurate shots and fine putting.
The last interesting news is regarding the disqualifications that took place at the tournament. s**+ Hyn Ahn and Il Mi Chung were disqualified for playing each other's balls on the 18th green, although the whole incident was unintentional but rules are rules.
