Golf Update: Million dollar question- will Woods be on the Ryder Cup team?
The world number 1 failed to make a cut on the US Ryder Cup team, after failing to make it in top 20s of the USPGA championship.
Tiger Woods finished at the 28th position at the Whistling Straits to seize the 12th spot in the Ryder Cup point’s standings. However, only the top 8 will make the cut in the US team at the Ryder Cup. Now Tiger Woods is left with only one option and that is the wild card pick, which will take place on the 7th of September 2010.Guess who is holding Tiger’s luck in his hands? It is Corey Pavin, the captain of the US Ryder Cup team.
Many players made a cut and many missed out. The USPGA runner-up, Bubba Watson vaulted his debut in the third spot, with Phil Mickelson the winner of the WGC- Bridgestone invitational, at the first. Rest of the six players on the Ryder Cup Team are; Hunter Mahan, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Jeff Overton and Matt Kuchar. These players will be playing at the Celtic Manor from the 1st Oct-3rd Oct, 2010. If this is a list of players who made the cut and then here is the list of those who failed; Anthony Kim, Lucas Glover, Tiger Woods and Zach Johnson.
Regarding Bubba Watson, he jumped 15 spots with the help of his top 2 position in the USPGA, despite the fact that he lost the play-off to Martin Kaymer and became one of the four rookies on the team along with Dustin Johnson, Jeff Overton and Matt Kuchar.
According to Bubba Watson, it was his biggest desire to play on the Ryder Cup team, ever since he started playing golf from the age of 8.Looks like someone’s dream is about to take the shape of reality.
Now for the struggling Tiger Woods, who once again lost a championship and the cut into the Ryder Cup team; his world is topsy turvy ever since the s*x scandal that broke out in December 2009 and ruined his private life. It seems as if, he is in a constant phase of struggle to bring back the player inside of him, who once won 14 major titles. Although, when he took a break of 5 months earlier this year, it seemed that things would work out for him and they even did, when he bagged the 4th position at the US open and at the masters. However, rest of the season was a total havoc in Tiger’s career with missing a cut at the Quail Hollow, taking a withdraw from the Players Championship and producing the worst four-round result at the PGA Tour that took place in Ohio.
According to the analysts, it is Tiger Woods game that has suffered the most during his haphazard private life. His Putting resembled that of a rookie and at times, it is hard to identify the player he has become from the worlds most successful, to someone who fails to make it in the top 20’s even. Although he has been taking the guidance of a Canadian swing coach Sean Foley but the progress is very slow.
Moving forward, a speculation is in the air that Corey Pavin might pick Tiger Woods up as a wild card. This news is merely a rumour but if there is some truth in it then, good news is about to unfold for the fans of the sleeping tiger. Not to forget, a serious fight took place between Tom Grey, a journalist and Corey Pavin, the captain of the US Ryder Cup team, last Tuesday on the same issue.
To sum it up, the world number 1, Tiger Woods is in a desperate need of Ryder Cup wild card after stopping at the 28th spot in the USPGA championship. Whether Corey Pavin chooses him over three other players is a relevant question but can only be answered after 7th September , till then keep your fingers crossed.
