Golf Update: NFL quarterback John Elway now plays HealthOne Colorado Senior Open 2010
John Elway, more famously known as the national football league quarterback, has currently tried his luck at the HealthOne Colorado Senior Open 2010. Now, apart from both being banned in the 1450’s by James II, football and Golf have John Elway in common as well.
John Elway turned 50 in June, which enabled him to qualify for the senior Open 2010. Elway, after making his name as a quarterback in football, he played the 7th hole of the Senior Open with much drama. Elway had dejectedly recorded a seven/seven after par 72 in the event which will continue till September 3rd.
Elway plays like a man with passion and has collected a total of 22 championships in his golf basket. He has been playing several tournaments, such as Celebrity Tournaments and Pro-ams. The fifty year old at the Celebrity Golf Tournament had a tie for the second position but for now in the Senior Open R1, Elway has managed a par 72.
The current event has a total of 156 amateurs playing and it looks as if the number ‘7’ doesn’t seem to go well with the famous Quaterback. At the 7th, Elway faced a triple bogey at hole with par 4. Basically, Elway faced a penalty of two strokes when he realized that the ball in the fairway is not the Penta 2 he has.
When Elway’s ball left him and his club at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club yesterday, it was a TaylorMade Penta 2 ball.
However, after hitting the doomed ball, the fifty year old realized what had happened and declared that the ball that he had played wasn’t his in any way. His ball was 10 yards much further the yard in a better condition than the previously played ball.
The blunder charged Elway a two stroke penalty and the title of an honest golfer, since he actually played the ball even after the realization that the ball wasn’t his. According to Elway, he hadn’t marked or checked the ball in the proper way since he figured it had the identical lie. He further added that just finding the ball was enough for him to make him happy.
Elway’s overall game was however very consistent on the 8th and 9th, he made an attempt for a 6 foot birdie and then finally one in hand. Currently the board is led by Bob Niger Doardo from Hils and has a 5 stroke lead form Elway.
Elway apart from blaming himself blames the grass on the rough as well. He explained that the ball maybe new but the 2 times Super Bowl Winner could only see a little bit of the ball he accidently hit and presumed his.
Elway, apart from golf, will also be getting his presence back in football. This year he feels great in physical form, he stated that his knee is doing great and will thus be competing in the Ranch Golf Club. He had a knee surgery which was replaced some two and a half year ago.
When inquired about his opinion on the Tebowmania in Football, Elway replied that he currently visited Tebow at the practice week held at Broncos. He had told him that he was the right play and going down the goal line, while heading towards the end zone won’t be allowed by Tebow in any way. Further, he added that the best thing for Tebow is that the pressure is divided in the team which would allow him to give his best in the game. He said he has a situation surrounding him which is the paramount. He said Tim is a very popular person and his popularity is equal to 3 years of winnings. He attached the three year popularity to the way he played football and the type of person he is.
The overall leader Board depicts a very interesting show. Overall, the top of the board is led by Bob Niger with a minus 5 at 67. The second place is held by Mike Zaremba at minus 4 with John Elway at T17. After the player’s blunder, Elway took great care, while recoding the scores on the card. He said that he wouldn’t want to make the same mistake twice in a game that was actually going good.
