Golf Update: PGA Grand Slam- Louis Oosthuizen loses the battle without a fight
Louis Oosthuizen has taken a withdrawal from the PGA grand slam, which is taking place next week in Bermuda because of an ankle injury.
The South African won the major in July at St Andrews and with that, he earned a trip to Bermuda where the all four major winners unite to win the title of champion of champions. However, the 27-year-old had to call off his trip to the Port Royal Golf Course
after his physician told him that playing with a broken foot might cause long term damage to player’s fitness.
Louis Oosthuizen, broke his foot while he was on a visit to his home town (South Africa), where he attended a friend’s wedding. The champ was out for a hunting trip that his foot caught a pothole. In result of the injury, Oosthuizen could not make an appearance
at the Alfred Dunhill Links championship in Scotland. However, he was certain that he would make it to the grand slam event eventually; he wrote this on his website a week back.
An hour from now, in a press conference the South African officially announced that he was pulling out of the 36-hole event. He gave an explanation similar to the one, which he delivered on the advent of Dunhill Link championship. The Mosel Bay resident
will be missing on a once- in-a –life- time- chance. Other than him, Phil Mickelson has also pulled out of the mega event. The Masters winner Phil Mickelson has been suffering from psoriatic arthritis; therefore, he decided not to make a trip; he was replaced
by Ernie Els. As for Louis Oosthuizen, his place will be taken by David Toms.
Winner of the Ryder Cup and US Open champion, Graeme McDowell, will be seen alongside his squad member, Martin Kaymer. The German won the US PGA Championship in August, thereby; he will be competing for the title on 18th October, 2010. The winner
will get prize money of £376,000 along with the biggest title of all. The runner up will take away the cheque of £188,000, third place finish will get £156,000 and the last one to finish will surmise with £125,000.
