Golf Update: Revised rankings based on point system says Tiger is 42nd
The point system has been revised by the Official World Rankings and according to it; Tiger Woods is 42nd in the world.
The OWGR announced on their official website that the point system has been revised. The point system has been formalised based on points earned in a tournament. Each tournament has certain points according to its weight age in the Tour and further divisions
are devised according to the position attained in it.
According to the latest edition of the point system, Lee Westwood is number one, whereas, Tiger Woods, who is number two according to ranking is 42nd. The reason behind such a depredation is sought to be disappearance from competitive golf for
three months after the famous s*x scandal. On his re-entrance, he failed to pick a single victory, but instead lost all titles that he carried in his Gatorade golf bag.
On October 31st, the golf god gave his throne to Lee Westwood, whose prowess deserved the title. Like Tiger, Lee did not win a single title until the end of 2010, but managed top-5 finishes in several events.
In accordance to the review done by the association, the top four seats in the rankings have been occupied by veterans from Europe. The list shows Lee Westwood at number one, Martin Kaymer at number two, Graeme McDowell, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, and Paul
Casey at the subsequent ranks of top eight. Ernie Els occupies fifth place, owing to the PGA Grand Slam title, and Matt Kuchar is ninth.
The earning based point system was much criticised by various professionals and members of PGA tour as it relies on earnings done in a tournament. As majors hold the maximum points, therefore, the winners of such events are the highest point holders on the
circuit.
Other notable positions have been taken by Ian Poulter (11), Francesco Molinari (13), Miguel Angel Jimenez (17), and Edoardo Molinari (19).
The year is ending and a pictorial version of positions of highest earners is here and according to it the world number two, Tiger Woods is 42nd on it. With two versions of ranking representing the same system have made it difficult to comprehend,
as to which is the real ranking.
