Golf Update: Rory McIlroy pleased to be back home
“Monty was right, missing the Fed Ex final playoff is truly a blessing in disguise,” says Rory McIlroy, while talking to Sky sports news.
One of the youngest Ryder cup team members of the European side is now showing faith in his captain. Rory McIlroy is back at home, taking rest and comforting with his family and friends. He told the press that he believed that the captain’s
decision, in all aspects, was the best alternative of all. He further added that he was initially chosen by Monty, and that went in his personal interest especially regarding his career. Therefore, rest of his decisions regarding practice sessions and pairing
will be accepted without any resistance.
Earlier, Colin Montgomerie suggested his team members to take a break from competitive events. So that by the time they reach the Celtic Manor, they will be physically and mentally fresh against the Americans. Golf is a not a sport that
requires much physical exertion but instead lots of mind power. Accuracy, precision, shot aiming and then shot planning are the components of the sports that require more mental skills, as compared to physiological movements. Therefore, the presence of mind
is one of the key ingredients to win the challenge in golf and for that mental comfort in the realms of home is the best source.
According to Rory McIlroy, he was glad that he got some time off, although initially he was very disappointed. Rory failed to make the cut in the Tour championship that is due this week in Atlanta. Top 30 players of the FedEx ranking were
supposed to qualify for the event but as Rory did not perform splendidly at the BMW championship, he failed to reach the top 30 players. Hence, he was out of the next tournament.
The last leg of playoff series is taking place at the venue of East Lake, with a purse of $7500, 000, from 23rd September to 26th September. Only one European Ryder cup team member will be seen there, Luke Donald.
The 23-year-old Irish golfer is comfortable with the fact that he is in a good shape, as he has practiced enough with his coach Sean Foley and at the tournaments. Moreover, he says that he has no issue regarding whoever he gets paired with. Although, last
time In Valhalla, he formed a fearsome partnership with his compatriot Graeme McDowell, but this time he is calm and prepared. He further added that he trusted Monty’s captaincy; thereby he is looking forward to meet his partner in the Ryder cup.
According to the experts, the European team will prove a strong opposition against the Americans, as there are great pairings in the team. All the players portray a fair level of comfort with each other. This is the reason not much concerns regarding the
pairing have come up. However, some of the players have shown their preferences, for instance, Martin Kaymer and Lee West wood have shown their interest in McIlroy. However, the end decision will be that of the captain.
The world number three, Lee Westwood is also in Scotland playing alongside McIlroy in a charity event organized by Darren Clarke. This is his first comeback event, after being away for a calf injury. Lee is showing a considerable amount of fitness for the
foursomes and the four balls.
Rounding it up, Rory McIlroy is pleased to be at home and he has complete faith in his captain. His trust on the captain indicates strong team-communication, but this decision might go against them. America has a strong team with long hitters like Bubba
Watson and Dustin Johnson, which means it will take a lot on the field to steal their Ryder cup defending champion title away from them.
