Golf Update: The Rule that disqualified Jim Furyk has been suspended- Bernard Langer wins the Boeing Classic
A lot is happening this week and it includes elimination of the ridiculous rule of getting disqualified from the tournament on missing the pro-am session and Bernard Langer winning the Boeing Classic.
Going back to the story where, Furyk was disqualified from last week's tournament after oversleeping and missing his pro-am tee time. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said the rule that cost Furyk a slot in The Barclays will be suspended for the rest of the season.
Furyk, overslept when his cell phone battery died and the alarm failed to sound.  After bolting out of bed, throwing on his clothes and arriving at Ridgewood Country Club five minutes late, without socks or a belt, he was told he could not play. The worst happened later when he reached the course and found out that disqualification from the entire tournament was awaiting him.
In reaction of this incident, many people from the golf fraternity raised voice and said that the rule was ridiculous. One of the prominent names in this venture was   Phil Mickelson, who said that the rule was pathetic and that he did not agree to it. Moreover, he urged the commissioner’s office that how they could let a rule like this which was so bizarre get executed. In result of this appeal, the commissioner has remove this rule from the US tour for a year but there is no certainty that it won’t be applied the next year as well.
According to the statesman, if a player is late in his pro-am session then the situation will be held differently as it won’t be considered as a matter of misconduct. Moreover, a player falling in this category will be allowed take part in the rest of the pro-am round but an additional sponsor activity will be expected from him. Although the rule that states "A player who misses his pro-am obligation in its entirety will still be ruled ineligible for the tournament unless he has been excused in accordance with the provisions of the regulations” still remains in hold.
In fact, to verify the rule the commissioner has urged the Player Advisory Council and Player Directors to re-evaluate the current pro-am rules and regulations, so that a better alternative solution can come into context, hence to ensure that the player gets to attend his pro-am session without being disqualified. To look in to the matter this issue will be discussed in the Policy Board meeting in November.
In another place, Bernard Langer a prominent name in senior golf won the Boeing Classic in Washington on Sunday. To add a charisma to his glorified career this golfer seized his fifth victory in this season and his second in Seattle. This track of victories started from the US Senior Open at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish. This tour marks his second major and before this event, he took the flavour of a top 1 finish at the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie.
Coming back to this week’s performance, Bernard Langer shot a 69 in the final round of TPC Snoqualmie Ridge, where he gave a tremendous lead to his playoff partner, Nick Price and finished the day with an eighteen under par.
According to the analyst, Bernard Langer is better than before, as his swings have improved and the way he drives the ball is just superb. From this performance, one fact can be verified that a golfer becomes better with age, as he gets expertise on tipping the ball from corners where the danger hovers the most.
This is it for this week in which the rule that disqualified Jim Furyk is out of the books of rules and regulations at least for a year and on the other side Bernhard Langer has earned his fifth victory  by posting a 69 in Boeing Classic followed by Nick Price at 71.
