Golf Update: Ryder Cup 2010- Colin Montgomerie sidelined himself from captaining the tournament again
The forty three year old European skipper for the Ryder Cup, Colin Montgomerie has said that he will not captain the European team again.
In a very recent interview, the veteran Scot golfer told the world that it is an honour for him to lead the European squad from the front in the Ryder Cup but he thinks his job is done now he will not be doing the job again.
The performance of the European team at Celtic Manor has been remarkable, as the Europeans showed their best class and skills to clutch back the prestigious trophy. When the ace golfer was asked about his team, Montgomerie told the media that it was a great
experience playing with the team and there are plenty of options around to be selected as a captain for the future editions of Ryder Cup.
Colin Montgomerie pointed towards Olazabal and admired his game, while saying that Olazabal is a great talent and he is probably the best option to be chosen as the skipper for the Ryder Cup’s next edition, which will be held at Medinah Chicago in 2012.
It is to be notified that the forty three year old Scot Colin Montgomerie appointed 4 golfers as his vice captains, whereas the Spanish veteran Olazabal was appointed as a vice captain by Montgomerie on Friday at Celtic Manor.
Bernard Gallacher is the only golfer in the history of the Ryder Cup who has retained his captaincy for more than once. Bernard endured defeat twice before winning the trophy for Europe at Oak Hill in the year 1995.
While answering to a question about captaining the side again, the Scot expressed his thoughts by saying that it is a very tough job to monitor each and every aspect of the game. He added that it is a hard task for everyone to stay connected with the partners
over the radio and to play his best shot.
According to news report, the administrator of the European golf event’s committee, Dane Bjorn has announced that the decision for the next edition of the Ryder Cup will be decided by the governing body of the committee and it is very much possible that
the committee will ask Montgomerie to carry on with his job of captaining the squad. Bjorn said that selecting a skipper for such a prestigious cup is not an easy task and the decision will take place lately.
Despite of the bad weather conditions in Wales, the tournament went perfectly well but it seems that for the forty three year old the event proved to be a bit too tough. After winning the event, Colin Montgomerie expressed his thoughts and told the media
that he is very happy with the way his team has cooperated with him and responded to him and he is feeling very lucky to be a part of such a wonderful squad of golfers. He added by saying that he thinks his job has been done, as the victory for Europe in the
Ryder Cup was his only target but he will not be available to perform as a skipper in the next Ryder Cup as for him being a captain is a bit too tough.
Montgomerie was appointed as a captain for this year’s Ryder Cup because he has been performing well and has been active throughout the year. Now Montgomerie has pointed towards the Spanish golfing ace Olazabal for the next edition of the event which will
be held in 2012 in United States.
The importance of the Ryder Cup is its uniqueness and captaining such a huge event is no doubt a hard pill to swallow. Now the fans of the golf world are hoping to know the best decision by the European Tour's event committee for the next skipper of the
event.
