Golf Update: Ryder Cup 2010- McDowell grasped the trophy for his team in the final singles match of the tournament
The thirty one year old Irish golfer Graeme McDowell kept his head in the final singles match of the Ryder Cup held at Celtic Manor and snatched the trophy for Europe. The matches between European and American teams at Celtic Manor were of jaw dropping standards
and in the end it was the Europeans who took the glory.
McDowell who won the US Open golf event as well displayed his best playing form against the ace American team rival Hunter Mahan and grasped the victory if the singles matches of the tournament on the seventeenth hole of the game. The performance led the
victory to the Europeans with the lead of 14 ½ over 13 ½.
The matches over the beautiful golf course of Celtic Manor were extremely sensational as the best players from the two continents battle to clutch the lead over one another. America gave a very strong challenge to their rivals and five of the American players
thrashed their opponents and won their singles matches. When Ricky Fowler managed to settle a win over his ace rival, Edoardo Molinari the score card dragged the final results of the tournament to the final match of the day.
McDowell shot a brilliant putt on the sixteenth green to go for the chance of winning his match and putt the seventeenth one to clinch the title for his team. Hunter Mahan missed his chance by miss judging the shot and opened a window of opportunity for
the Irish. The performance of Graeme McDowell is no doubt splendid as he was able to show the best from him at a very crucial time of the match.
After the winning, the prestigious title the Irish veteran golfer seemed relaxed and joyful over the grand success of his team. When he was asked about his feelings, the Irishmen expressed himself by saying that he tried his level best to hold his nerve
and settle the brawl. He was very happy that everything went well and just according to the plan. He also said that the whole environment of the tournament has been marvellous and he wanted to give his full to snatch the trophy for his team mates and for every
European who is a fan of golf and the Ryder Cup.
The performance has given him a very strong momentum and matchless glory. When McDowell was asked about the importance of the tournament for him, he said that the trophy is very special for him and his team as we are able to snatch it back from the American
team. He added that his crucial win against Mahan is fantastic and he is feeling much more relaxed as finally he has been able to perform his duty in a perfect way.
While talking about the match, McDowell told the media and said that it was a very tense situation for him as the level of the competition is very high. He added that his 16th putt was truly overwhelming for him and the shot gave him courage to go for the
17th. The Irish golfer added that finally, everything went brilliantly well and he is very happy about it.
McDowell appreciated and admired the cooperation and paid tribute to the team’s skipper, Colin Montgomerie. He said that Colin is a fantastic player and he has been outstanding throughout the year. He added that the way Colin has managed and led the team
from the front is truly remarkable. Later he added that it is a proud moment for all the European players and they are happy that they did their job to the fullest.
On the other hand, the American team’s captain Corey Pavin seemed pretty relaxed and confident about his team’s performance as well. Pavin said that he is proud of his team, as they gave their best and came very close. He said, the performance has given
them very good momentum and motivation for the coming future and they are confident about it.
