Golf Update: Ryder Cup 2010- Rain in Celtic Manor brings more profit for the hotels
The storm that arrived in Wales on Friday might have brought some good news for the hotels. With the Ryder Cup going on at Celtic Manor, the thousands have golf fans that have flown in from around the world might have to book an extra night. This is because
due to the delays and the first round being pushed into Saturday, it is a possibility that the Ryder Cup may extend into Monday. This is something that hasn’t ever happened in the 83 year tournament history; however, no one can control Mother Nature from striking
again and hence extending the cup.
South Wales is in for unexpected windfall and possible storms, so the visitors should have brought their umbrellas and raincoats. That would have been very smart thinking. One should know that if it’s October and you’re in Wales, things are bound to get
a little wet.
The Ryder Cup officials said that the tournaments schedule was altered last night to try to finish Sunday. The rain delayed the game almost seven hours and if the poor weather continues, then it’s likely to be a Monday finish. European Tour chief executive
George O’Grady said, “This all depends on the sky – we don’t have a good forecast for Sunday but they are not always accurate, and if that happens we will then roll into Monday.”
The Mercure Holland House and Marriot agreed on accommodating tourists that want to extend their stay. Whereas for The Hilton, the faculty in charge said they haven’t seen an impact on the reservations. A receptionist at Marriot said that at the moment the
customers were just inquiring about extending their stay and it is tomorrow they will know for sure whether they want to stay or not. It was mostly American families who had planned on leaving tomorrow after the Ryder Cup ended. An example is of the Scanlon
family from Idaho who are now determined to stay an extra day if the tournament goes into Monday. The family thinks that a little extra money would definitely be worth it.
In the second day of the Ryder Cup, the weather is less wetter and more on the sunnier side. However, the chilly weather has really gotten the players and crowds layering up. With the American squad in lilac sweaters and the Europeans in printed navy blue
sweaters, the players surely aren’t letting the Wales weather bring them down.
With the Europeans leading right now, everyone is on the edge of their seats for the second round of the Ryder Cup to begin.
