Golf Update: Smith will be teeing off at Castle Hill on Jan 3rd
Trent Smith will be appearing in the Jack Newton Junior Harvey Norman Week of Golf tournament, which will kick off today (3rd January) at the Castle Hill Country Club.
Smith is state junior golf squad member and is known for his putting accuracy. He first started playing in 2008 when he accompanied his father to a golf tournament at Castle Hill Country Club. Being a Castle Hill resident and a member at the club gives the
16-year-old an edge.
Smith is being considered as the betting favourite for the tournament, owing to the victory he cast in 2009 at the same venue.
According to experts’ opinion, Smith will be facing a lot of competition at Castle Hill, but a victory and relevancy with the course might lead him to the second victory. The player has been practicing for five days in a week to prepare for the tournament,
which has made his game cheesy.
The experts are right about competition. Smith will be facing Castle Hill Country Club members Kurt Eckmann and Lachlan Crowl. The contention of the duo leads to a notion that a competition will give way to determine the champion of Castle Hill.
Despite the threat, Smith poses calmness and confidence towards the tournament. Speaking to the press he said,
“I shot three under par for 68, I’m happy with that, it’s the best round I’ve had at Castle Hill Country Club. I will be playing four rounds in the tournament. I played the summer competition and became more interested. I won the summer competition in 2009.”
Smith is a student at William Clarke College and is looking forward for a university program in United States, which is one of the reasons for his interest in the sports. If he wins the tournament, he will earn scholarship in a university program. Smith
dropped his handicap to one after he competed in the Perfect Junior Tournament on December 21st.
The amateur who was chosen for the NSW Junior Golf Squad in October last year will be teeing off today at the Castle Hill Country Club, where Jack Newton Junior Harvey Norman Week of Golf tournament will take place.
