Golf Update: Social Media used to attract Tiger Woods to Canada
The organizers of the RBC Canadian media are utilizing social media to attract the former world number one Tiger Woods. The fourteen time major championship winner, had a horrible year in 2010, and is hoping to make a comeback this year. Going through what
was the worst downfall in the history of golf, Tiger will have to work extra hard to make his mark in golfing world again.
Seeing how Woods is looking for any ‘good news’ he can get, the folks in Canada decided to use twitter and face book to attract the cat. It’s been a decade since Tiger Woods last played at Canada’s national golf championship. Woods, in 2000 won the Canadian
Open and hasn’t played at it since then. Shaughnessy Gold Club located in Vancouver intends to change that in the year 2011. The organizers are finding ways through which the fans can encourage Woods and lure him to play through sending messages on Twitter
and Facebook.
CK Golf Solutions a known golf marketing firm’s owner Jeff Ciecko told Global News,
“I think there’s nothing like a personal message and knowing that your fans — hopefully your fans en mass . . . are sending you messages saying we want you in Vancouver, we want you at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club,”
The Tweet Tiger Campaign, through which the users were to send stock message which were solely directed at Woods. Even though 46,000 messages were posted to Woods account and Ceicko told Global he had still not heard from Woods representatives or Woods himself.
Ceiko is still not discouraged knowing that the event will be taking place in Vancouver after a week of British Open and the organizers need to be overcome the travel barriers that exist.
Next week Tiger will be starting his season at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego. Woods has won on the Torrey Pines five times, including the 2008 U.S Open. In the previous two years, Woods didn’t play at the golf course. In 2009, Tiger was suffering
from knee surgery whereas last year, Tiger was caught in persona problems. Starting from November 2009, Tiger has been a victim of constant media ridicule, scandals and controversies. The news of the player’s infidelity came out in the open which consequently
led to his divorce form ex-wife Elin Nordegren. Woods also lost his five year number one rank to the European Lee Westwood last year.
Hopefully, Tiger would be attracted to Canada and achieve more in 2011.
