Golf Update: Steve Stricker back in the lead at PGA John Deere Classic
Seems like Steve Stricker could not wait for a day to snatch back his lead from the US all time favourite Paul Goydos since Friday. The flaming Steve Stricker drank a half a gallon of his favourite orange juice after he stroked a record of 16 under par at the PGA John Deere Classic. He shared a hand shake as well with Paul Goydos, who gave him an edge on Friday after striking the lowest possible score of 59.
Steve Stricker is ranked the world’s number 4th and is known for his extraordinary putting capabilities. His strokes are smooth and simple and this is exactly what has turned the magic on today. With a driving accuracy of 61.78% and the driving distance of 289.9 yards, Steve did a tremendous job today.
After standing in the lead around five hours, the American Steve Stricker took a one shot lead with a five-under par 66 at the PGA John Deere Classic. This score was covered in all together 126 rounds with a record setting 16-under par. It seemed Paul Goydos was not in the form the way he was on Friday; therefore, his performance too could not take an identical form. He settled for a three-under 68, leaving him at 127.
To give a quick recap of Goydos performance which he had today? Goydos, 46, birdied his opening hole at the par-five 10th and was still at 13 under after six holes around the 7,257-yard, par-71 course in Silvis. He birdied every hole on the back nine, leaving the 15th hole where he placed a 6-foot par putt. Goydos birdied a par-five hole to move to 17th but he could not continue that later. Seems like the situation became normal, after yesterday, when in last 10 years it was the first time Paul Goydas scored as low as 59. According to him, it felt better as he is so much used to giving bad scores in last 10 years that Friday’s event felt like a nuclear bomb on him. It was not him on Friday but coming back to 68 was a sign of relief for him. He required 32 putts as compared to 22 which he made yesterday.
Steve Sticker came back after a shoulder injury with rumours up on Friday but an amazing victory of 5 under par 66 after two days making a total of 126, which are 16 under the TPC Deere Run. The last record made at the same venue was 127 by David Frost back in 2000 around 10 years back. Other than these two players Jeff Maggert, Matt Jones and George McNeill were equal at score with 11 under 131.Maggert and McNeill are shooting there way into 65 without hitting any bogey. Lastly, it is Jones with 67 after bogeying his final two holes. Brendon de Jonge and Aaron Baddleley stood with 10 under the par with a tie at 65.
TPC Deere Run is the venue of the event. It has tree-lined fairways, and very elevations giving a dramatic effect which was the real essence of the design. The club is designed in an old fashioned way, which givers the players and the spectators the feel of residing in the 18th century. It also features a beautiful view of the Rock River. It covers a yardage of 7,080 which declares it’s self as a testing ground for the skills of the players.
The event is taking place in Illinois, which is known for its beautiful gardens, so here is a tip if you want to hang loose and relax, then go for the Genevieve Green Gardens .They are the real definition of serenity and beauty. There are many small gardens situated in chunks in various locations. Then there is this beautiful central garden with a beautiful arbour with a water fall. For all the golf lovers and exclusively lovers’ one can always go for a walk hand in hand on the lovely walkways right after the match. Who knows Steve Stricker might be doing the same.
