Golf Update: The Irishman, Padraig Harrington wins the Johor Open golf event in Malaysia
The Thirty nine year old ace golfer from Ireland, Padraig Harrington showed his stunning class with talent and won the Johor Open golf tournament in Malaysia.
The Irish veteran won the title for the first time in two years by recording a stunning effort of sixty nine in the final round of the Johor Open. Harrington finished the day on twenty under par with the three shots lead over the rival Noh Seung Yul of South Korea. It is to be noticed that the South Korean golfer Noh Seung Yul also played tremendously well and finished at sixty five.
The glorious victory in the Johor Open golf event is certainly very special for the Irish; as he has been suffering from illness and was not feeling fit to perform. It is to be notified that Harrington was suffering from sore throat and seemed struggling to give his full during the contest. Harrington expressed his thoughts and said that the victory in the tournament is really overwhelming for him, he is feeling very good about it. He added that he has been slightly out of touch and his performance was not very encouraging during the past two years but the recent success has given him motivation and boost for the future and it is really great for him.
The Ryder Cup star and skipper of the European squad Colin Montgomerie also played well and recorded a sixty nine. Montgomerie finished the day’s play on ten under par and shared the eleventh place.
The final day’s play started with a two hour delay due to a thunder storm. Harrington started his day with a five shots lead and played superbly well. The thirty nine years old carded three birdies out of first four holes and pushed his lead further beyond the reach of his rivals.
The Irish veteran recorded three more birdies at eleven, thirteen and fourteen and firmly grasped the control over the game. The win in the Johor Open golf tournament is Harrington’s first title since the USPGA Championship title in 2008.
While talking about the playing conditions during the tournament, Padraig Harrington said that he always prefers the circumstances that were there in the final two days of the event. He added that the conditions were windy and tough and he loved each and every bit of it.
He added that the weather was perfect on the final day of the tournament. While talking about his performance, the thirty nine year old said that the golf course was in perfect shape and the early birdies gave him a lot of confidence.
Padraig Harrington is of the view that he had a good luck, which helped him to clutch the trophy. While talking about this, Harrington said that the previous week has been great for him as everything went according to the plan. He added that he tried his level best to keep his nerve during the game and he is very happy with the outcome.
On the other hand, the tournament has been great for the young and talented Korean Golfer as well. The nineteen years old, Seung Yul displayed his remarkable talent and carded the birdies at the last three holes to snatch the runner up position in the tournament.
When he was asked about his performance, the nineteen year old expressed very excitedly that he tried to follow Harrington during the game. He added that he had a very good day too and the perfect weather conditions supported him well. Later Yul said that when the shot by Harrington went into the water, he thought he had the best chance of usurping the lead from Padraig but he proved to be a bit too good. Yul said the win of Padraig Harrington in the even is a very well deserved victory.
