Golf Update: The LPGA finally speaks out!
The LPGA Tour schedule will be finally announced on Thursday.
With the first shot of the Professional Golf Association scheduled to be played on Thursday, the ladies PGA has plans on announcing its 2011 schedule after an hour of the event.
Why the commotion? This is the first time any association, which is reportedly one of the higher sports entities, has kept its schedule hidden after the New Year’s Day.
With the LPGA Commissioner dealing with the earlier stated, all he focused this year was on stopping the slides.
“To turn a business around, one has to stop the slide” said Mike Whan last year.
A year ago, Whan's entry to the LPGA office bought forward several issues. The time was running out and Whan had to tackle a list of problems which included the likes of missing title backers, a total of 8 renewed deals and then finally the issue of bringing
in new events for the schedule amidst the turbulent economic conditions.
Nonetheless, he dealt with all that came forward. According to latest reports, the LPGA Tour has managed to add two events in its schedule which are in Asia. The addition is made from a continent where female golf is considered as the strongest.
According to rumours, two events from the Unites States and the biannual Solheim Cup were removed from the schedule with the blame of being incomplete.
As if this was new for many, the LPGA brought forward one more peculiar twist. The twist is that golfers at the domestic inaugural Founders Cup would be giving back the earned checks to charity and would thus be playing for free.
With the three-round event being held at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge, one wonders how many top profiles will be ready to show up at a spell opening for free.
From those who haven’t been hanging around to start their 2011 season, Brittany Lincicome kicked off her play in Orlando and is already enjoying a pay day of $ 115.
The announcement of the LPGA schedule would be followed by a dinner where several golfing prodigies would be awarded for their contributions in golf.
Jack Burke Jr. would be awarded with the William D. Richardson Award while Steve Stricker will be the receiver of the ASAPsports/Jim Murray Award. The earlier stated are being honoured by the Golf Writers Association of America and the media due to their
lifetime contributions to the game and cooperative efforts with media.
Other than the earlier stated, the USGA Women's Committee Chairman Barbara Douglas will be awarded with the Ben Hogan Award. The chairman is fighting with ovarian cancer who has her perseverance in golf continued despite a physical ailment or handicap.
The LPGA has a total of 24 scheduled tournaments lined up which would be commencing from the month of February.
