Golf Update: The NSW Open rests in Peter O'Malley hands
The NSW Open ended on the 28th of November and handed the victory cup to Peter O'Malley after he carded a minus 14 with the veteran winning the tournament after a full 5 year stretch.
The championship was scheduled from the 25th of November and continued till last Sunday that witnessed a tough Brawl between Tom Lewis and Peter Cookie for the second spot. To round up the top five, the fourth place was seen tied with Aaron Townsend,
Matt Jager and Daniel Fox.
As far as the first place is concerned, O'Malley played a good game of golf on the Australian Tour and had to undergo a 3 way playoff. The playoff was thus played between the aforementioned second place holders, the South African as well as the British Amateur.
The playoff played at the Vintage, Hunter Valley was achieved after Lewis and Cooke dissipated the five shot lead the leaders held.
Overall, O’Malley collected a total score of 72 that was chased by Lewis and Cooke when they adorned their score cards with 66s. The previously mentioned numbers reign from the frame at the 18 under par before which the latter was seen dropped off at the
first playoff hole.
After Cooke dropped off, the winner and the nineteen year old played the last hole of the par rating 71 golf course last hole two more times.
At a course he had never appeared before, Lewis played his second fairway shot to unfortunately land in a bunker. O’Malley on the other hand, sent his shot to a secure place on the green.
For Lewis, he had to tackle the ball and the sand, which he did, but after successfully getting out of the sand bunker, the golfer had played a two putt shot that swiftly handed the win to O’Malley.
According to O’Malley, the match required more hard work than he expected but it was a job well done. He said that he played a good game of golf and said that he needed such type of win that could make him ready for the weeks after this.
For O’Malley, he believes that the current week is one good stretch for him since he has been aiming the Australian Open for quite some time.
“I’m actually looking forward to play the upcoming two weeks and will be a charging in with a good form” O’Malley said.
The NWS Championship for O’Malley is the first event since the year 2005. The previously mentioned year witnessed this golfer to appear at the PGA event in New Zealand. O’Mallaey was also seen in the near misses of the NWS Open and finished at runner up
position on three occasions.
On the other hand, The Kings cup handed Udorn Duangdecha victory after he carded a 66. The Asian Tour Kings Cup was thus handed to Duangdecha on Sunday as well where he carded a magnificent 6 under.
The game was played at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club where the victor collected a total of 276 to stand at the apex. The win was collected after a 2 shot lead and a 12 under in total.
From the story of Kings Cup leader board, the second place was achieved by Joong Kyung Mo, Jbe Kruger and Pariya Junhasavasdikul with a 68, 73 and 72 at a minus 10.
