Golf Update: The Ryder Cup 2010- Session Two
The Ryder Cup match began with its second session of its foursome game today at the Celtic Manor. The previous session on Friday was delayed for 7 hours because of heavy rains and darkness. The players continued with the fourball matches of the last session
in the morning and then started off with the six-foursome changed schedule.
Despite the delay that took place, the organisers have assured that a Sunday end is possible. The full session would include 4 fourball matches and 2 foursomes, which will be followed by the 12 single matches and will probably end by Sunday eve, unless they
aren’t halted. Players like Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan would only play three matches and no player would be exempted. The 12 players would be seen sitting in the sessions after Friday which will be followed by two singles.
In order to hold the Ryder Cup in hand, USA needs a total of 14 points, while the European needs to hold 14 ½ to grab the win.
Before the first session continued today, the Yanks stood with 3 down of their four matches. After the rain subdued, Stewart Cink made five birdies in a total of nine holes which moved Cink and Matt Kuchar with a 2 up through the 11 holes. Bubba Watson and
Jeff Overton stood with a 1 up against Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington. An ‘all-squared’ end at session one was recorded for Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker against Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher through 10 holes.
The team Europe achieved their first point at Celtic Manor today. The remaining fourball matches were led by the U.S. team.
At the opening match, the partnership Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer proved to be rather strong as they achieved a 3 and 2 over the team Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.
Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington were unable to embrace the strong attack by the team Jeff Overton and Bubba Watson. The Americans were seen with a 3 up and 5 to play further.
Stewart Cink’s 5 birdies played a tremendous role for the Cink and Matt Kuchar team on Friday who was playing against Graeme McDowell and Rory Mcllory. Cink-Kuchar combo was 1 up with 4 to play.
Then there was the Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods team, Stricker played his 12th hole amazingly with one birdie. The hole had green which chipped the ball in from short. Stricker-Woods combo was against Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher.
