Golf Update: The South Korean, Kyung-Tae Kim wins the Japan Open after a 64
¥ 40 million was collected by Kyung-Tae Kim after he carded a 64 at the final round of the Japan Open champion 2010. The twenty four year old won the event after holding the lead over Hiroyuki Fujita with 2 strokes. The event took place from the 14th of
October to 17th of October at the Aichi Country Club in Nagoya.
The South Korean has won the Japan Tour career the second time. He has been rising towards the top rather steadily and has scored in the top ten 12 times on the tour. He won the season’s finale the Diamond Cup earlier this year.
This week had been a strong display of golf by the twenty four year old as well. Before entering this week, Kim was standing at number three in the money list rankings, while the top two position holders were Ryo Ishikawa and Hiroyuki Fujita. Kim’s recent
win has pushed him ¥16 million ahead of Fujita with Ishikawa after the ¥ 40 million prize money.
Apart from topping the money list, now Kim has his focus on entering the top 50 in the world. The twenty four year old currently stands at position number 63 in World ranking.
Replicating the money list race, Fujita was also seen chasing the twenty four year old at the Aichi Country Club. Fujita finished 2 strokes behind the leader at the event and carded a score of 70. The brawny score, however, was no match for Kim strength
to score a 64.
At the third place, Han Lee, Hideki Matsumaya and Toshinori Muto were all tied at the tournament. American Lee and Matsumaya, the eighteen year old amateur didn’t go above the T3 spot but three time Japan Tour winner Toshinori Muto did. Muto was fighting
for the runner up position at the event but his double bogey at the end pushed him backwards at position number three.
Han Lee finished his game at a 69, while Toshinori Muto carded a 70 at the end of the game. Among these two golfers, Hideki Matsuyama carded a 68 to tie all three at the third place with a minus 10 in hands.
The Japan Open Golf Championship is from the current year, one of the third richest tournaments on the Japan Tour. It has total prize money of ¥ 200 million and minimum player allocation points of 32. This championship is designated as the ‘Premier event’
due to the Official World Golf rankings.
Tadahiro Takayama carded a score of 68 with a three under and thus ended at the 6th place. Takayama scored a total of 276.
Ryo Ishikawa, who was one of the favourites before the start of the tournament ended his game at the 8th place. The position thus earned was a tie with many players such as Chris Campbell. The Australian made sure of the fact that he would keep
on playing the Japan Golf Tour after he winning the prize money. The ¥ 4.85 million triumph placed Chris Campbell on spot number 56 which ensured his 2011 appearance on the Japan Golf Tour.
Other than the ¥ 4.85 million Australian, Brendan Jones and Paul Sheehan also made their mark at the Japan Open champion 2010. Jones finished his game at the 16th place while Sheehan ended his game after standing at the 20th. The 16th
place holder, Jones is currently standing at the ninth place on the Japan Golf Tour while Paul Sheehan and Chris Campbell are both on the 56th position.
The Japan Golf Tour will now host the Bridgestone Open in Chiba Prefecture next.
