Golf Update: The Tigers team stands second at The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational 2010 was held from the 24th of October to the 26th of October and was hosted by the Texas Tech. The event ended with the team LSU men’s team ending at the second place on Tuesday.
The Invitational was held at the Isleworth Golf Course in Windermere and placed the number 5 team Alabama at the first place. The team ended with a 20 over par, while the second place team carded an 11 over par. Team LSU carded a 299 to give a rather tough
competition to the team Alabama.
Team LSU, also known as the Tigers, gave a rather tough match to the top five teams of the Invitational and was seen charging in after it overcame a four stroke run.
The game turned aggressive when the Tigers surmounted the four shots they needed to grab the first place. It however subdued later on due to Cory Whitsett’s play when the freshman, from the Crimson Tide Alabama, held on to its team lead and carded a final
back-to-back birdie to project the team to the top.
The freshman is a left hand golfer and is usually compared to Phil Mickelson. The lefty collected 2 birdies at the 13th and 14th holes and sent the team Alabama to the top of the leader board and hence towards the cup.
Whitsett thus tied himself with a senior, Andrew Loupe, from LSU at the fifth place.
Regarding Loupe, he initially stood at the fourth place but slipped downward on the list after he collected several bogeys. The senior from LSU faced a shaky last round and played a double bogey and then 5 bogeys further to slither to fifth place. The last
round wasn’t all that bad though, Loupe carded one eagle and 2 birdies that placed his score to be a 75 with a 3 over at the end.
The earlier rounds had Loupe tying with Sang Yi in the individual standings. Later however the junior faced some tough conditions as he carded three birdies to be covered with 3 double bogeys. Yi ended his game with his best finish at the 11th
place.
Coming back to the overall team’s performance, this is the third time the Tigers have achieved a second or first place. Their second half of this season has been more solid as compared to the previous half since they needed to work hard on their top 5 line-up.
This time the team took advantage of the top scores their line-up thus presented.
