Golf Update: Tiger Woods chances of a place in the US team for the Ryder Cup
After witnessing one of the most intriguing finishes in the PGA Championships, there have been talks all around about the fact that whether or not Tiger Woods rightly deserves a place in the Ryder Cup. Everyone is questioning the fact that whether or not Tiger Woods still has what it takes to compete in the Ryder Cup given the form he is in.
Experts however, have come up with several things that might lead to Tiger Woods being included in the US team that takes on team Europe. For the time being experts say that Tiger Woods is not worthy of a spot in the Ryder Cup team, keeping in mind his recent performances.
The first and the most basic thing that cannot be ruled out is the fact that Woods is among the most successful golfers of all time. No matter whatever he is going through, it would be disrespectful to the game according to experts if the top ranked player in the sport is not selected for one of the most prestigious tournaments in golf. Being World number One, therefore somewhat helps this once dominating golfer to have a chance of being included in the Ryder Cup that takes place this October.
Coupled with the above fact is also another thing that Woods is in top 12 positions in the list that will be used to classify players for the Ryder Cup when it comes to the US Team. Woods, currently trails Lucas Glover in the standings and is placed in 11th spot respectively. Currently, Woods is sitting in a tight spot being the last player who would be able to make it to the cut. In addition, being in the position that Woods is in, his fate is in his own hands and now whatever happens from here, Woods can either thank himself or blame himself.
Tiger Woods during his dominating period in golf took part in every possible tournament and that gave him something to learn each time he got on the golf course. Experts say that one of the main reasons for Tiger looking awful at times is the fact that he has participated in nine events in 2010, however, that by no means gives enough exposure to a golfer who wants to maintain his number 1 spot. Keeping this aside, this is also a fact that Tiger’s has a long list of accomplishments which cannot be ignored. Experts say that if Tiger is able to play like he did in somewhat successful three PGA Championships out of the nine, then he would surely contribute to the US team in the Ryder Cup.
This truly amazing golfer’s experience is another vital element that he would provide upon his inclusion in the US team. Out of the eight golfers that have been selected in the US team at the end of the PGA Championships; four have no experience when it comes to the Ryder Cup. Tiger Woods is one option that Corey Pavin, the US team captain can look upon keeping in mind the fact that Tiger has participated in every Ryder Cup since 1997, except 2008 where he was recovering from an injury. Ryder Cup history has not been such a success story for this legendary golfer, as he has managed to pull off ten wins out of the twenty five matches he has taken part in.
Experts think that though the European and American golfers would attract a great deal of audience for the Ryder Cup, it is very true that if Tiger was to be included in the US team squad, then a great deal of fans would pour in to get a glimpse of the World number 1. Experts say that as golf is moving into a new generation, it is Tiger’s presence that might well be the one that fill the gap between golf as it is played today and how it would be played in the coming future.
The US team captain Corey Pavin is reported to have guaranteed a place to Tiger Woods. And with a player of Pavin’s experience and class, it seems unlikely that he would exclude Tiger Woods from the US team that will compete in this year’s Ryder Cup.
