Golf Update: Tiger Woods slump to no.3 in world golf rankings
Martin Kaymer’s win at Abu Dhabi has earned him the second place in the world golf rankings causing further descending of Tiger Woods in the rankings. Tiger Woods lost the first place on October 31, 2010 to Lee Westwood after his reign as the world no.1
golfer for 281 weeks in a row. Tiger Woods is out of the first two spots for the first time after six years.
Successfully defending his title at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship by an astounding eight strokes, Kaymer said,
“It's quite nice to overtake somebody who is probably the best player in the world, perhaps the best player that ever lived,To be in front of him for a little bit - we'll see how long it takes him to overtake me again - it makes me very proud to be better
in the world rankings than the best player in the world."
Tiger Woods is currently holding the third spot with 7.13 points after Lee Westwood with 8.69 points and Martin Kaymer with 8.09 points respectively. It is the first time in 18 years that the top two spots are being held by Europeans. Lee Westwood belongs
to the United Kingdom while Martin Kaymer plays for Germany.
Tiger Woods, being out of the game for 20 weeks lately, lost the first spot to Lee Westwood after three months earlier. Critics believe that the extra-marital controversies and the divorce filed on August 23, 2010 are the reasons behind his tumbling from
the top spots in the world rankings.
Many regard Tiger Woods as the best player golf has ever produced as is evident from his records. Woods holds the record of winning 14 major golf championships which makes him the second, only after Jack Nicklaus with 18 wins. Forbes Magazine announced Tiger
Woods to be the richest sportsman in the world with $105 million in July 2010.
