Golf Update: Tiger Woods strikes back at the 92nd PGA Championship at Whistling Straits
The whole new Tiger Wood appeared from the bizarre fog that was covering the Whistling straits on Thursday, at the advent of 92nd PGA Championship. He swiped the first round with a 1-under par and entered the second with a hope for good times.
He wasn't the out dated Tiger, who was seen a week back with bogeys, double bogeys and half shanks. Only a week ago at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, he was already 4-over par in the front nine of the 1st round. Finishing the final round with an 18-over with a tie for the 78th place was the worst score of Tiger Woods career.
However, the magical wand swung itself and the first round became a total surprise, when Tiger Woods’ name came in the top half of the leader board, rather than the far south. It was only the first round, or the spectators would have handed over the Wanamaker Trophy to him.
According to the experts, Tiger Woods first round was a sign of his revival. That is how it goes; everyone has their highs and lows, for Tiger Woods lows started in July, when he finished with a 71 in the first round of the British Open that took place in July. However, he completed the first day, first round with par, which shows that the black clouds in Tiger’s career have started to drift away. The Tiger Woods of Thursday's PGA Championship doesn’t remind us of the Tiger Wood of the last Thursday's Bridgestone.
Everything about Tiger was much better. His driving distance was better, as he hit eight of the 14 fairways. His iron play was better with him hitting 12 of 18 greens in regulation. His putting average was better with 28 putts per round. On the whole, he was moving forward and getting close to the game he once played.
Moving forward with the Whistling Straits, which according to the analysts is not much fun to play on. Everything seemed to be against the players; firstly, it was the length of 7,522 yards with dunes, fescue, bunkers, heat, strong gushes of wind and the worst, thick fog. Not to forget the Wisconsin’s state bird, the mosquito kept on eluding the faces of many players. However, none of these distractions seemed to bother the world number 1.He played calm and confident.
Tiger Woods took off with a quick start. He birdied his first hole, then the 353-yard, par-4 10th hole. Later he birdied the 621-yard, par-5 11th hole with one more at the 402-yard, par-4 13th. His last four holes were covered by four putts making an aggregate of 3-under par.
There were some odd moments as well, for example, when the club flew out of his hand when he took a drive to the 5th hole. Moreover, he missed some putts and few of his Iron shots rather than going into the greens fell far away from the pin. Soon after dropping to even-par and only two holes to go, Tiger Woods birdied the par-4 No. 9th hole and got himself out of the danger zone.
According to Tiger Woods, he played too good not to shoot under the par and if that would have happened, he would have been really disappointed. In fact, Tiger Woods is absolutely correct. With the type of game he played yesterday, he deserved a red number. His game wasn't perfect, but it made its way through the dunes of Whistling Straits.
The first round of the 92nd PGA championship started with a bang. No one cares who the leader of the clan is but everyone certainly has all their eyes and ears on the raging Tiger that is back from hibernation and has completed the first round with a 1 under. According to the experts, Tiger Woods overall game shows consistency, especially in his putting and driving accuracy. However, he played well and if he continues to stick with it, in no time the world will see their number 1 again.
