Golf Update: Tullo wins the Egyptian Open
The Egyptian Open, which was sponsored by SODIC wrapped up on Sunday at JW Marriott's Mirage City Golf Club. Mark Tullo surged to his second Challenge Tour victory at the Egyptian Open with a tremendous score of six-under-par 66; whereas, Rory McIlroy faltered
at the 12th place.
The golfer who hails from Chile was on fire and he seemed invincible when he pushed the Scottish golfer George Murray and Dutchman Floris de Vries in the second place. The winner claimed the prize money of €28,612, which vaulted his place on The 2011 European
Tour.
Tullo attacked from behind by drafting a round of 13-under-par and conquered the title that took him to the seventh place finish on the Challenge Tour. The winner was very happy with his achievement and expressed his excitement with a big laughter, while
standing on the winner’s podium. He said, “I also won the Rolex Trophy earlier in the year when I was four behind going into the final round. I don't know how I do it or why it happens but it feels great. Winning once is amazing but to do it twice in the
year shows your consistency and that you are doing a really good job.”
He further explained that winning the second title of the season was very important for him as it secured his entrance into the coming season. He said it was like a dream for him as initially he was quite nervous in regard to the Grand Final, which was the
next event on his schedule. If he would not have won the title, he would have been terribly stressed out, but with the title, he could relax.
On the other hand was the world number nine, who was seen struggling with his swings ever since the Ryder Cup. The 21-year-old Irish shot the lowest score of his tournament stats to head home with ease that his swings were improving. He shot a 68 in the
final round.
Speaking to the press McIlroy said, "That (68) was the lowest of the week and it could have been a lot better as well. I played really nicely today and carried it on from yesterday. It's encouraging moving forward. There was a massive difference between
how I hit the ball on Wednesday in the first round and how I hit it today so that's really good.”
He further explained that the pro-am session on Wednesday was a very bad experience for him. However, he improved consistently and it could be seen from his stats, which were way better on Saturday. Moreover, he added that he would be seeing his swing coach
in the coming week so that he would adhere to the new changes.
The Ryder Cup star was delighted with the facilities in Egypt. He said that he enjoyed his trip, the course and especially the pyramids. He also praised the hotel resort in which he was staying and stated it as excellent. Moreover, he added that he was looking
forward to come back to the beautiful country provided if the event became a part of the European Tour.
This is it for the SODIC Egyptian Open, which took place at the JW Marriott's Mirage City Golf Club in Cairo, Egypt. The event was seasoned to gather the European tour players and the golfers from Middle East, thereby, the Irish star Rory McIlroy was also
seen teeing between the deserts and pyramids of Egypt.
This was the very first time for an event of this sort being staged in Egypt. If the event becomes the part of the tour, then not only it will benefit the local golfers, but it will also enhance the exposure of the players on the PGA tour.
