Golf: Volvo extends deal with Avantha Masters
Volvo Auto India has extended its deal with European Tour’s Avantha Masters which is scheduled to be played at the DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi, India.
The news was confirmed by the Managing director of Volvo Autos Paul de Voijs in a press conference on Thursday.
Paul said, “This is our second year of sponsoring Avantha Masters and we continue to view this as an excellent platform for exposure and making acquaintance with potential customers. Golf is a sport which aptly personifies Volvo’s core values of quality,
integrity, and fair play.”
According to the deal, the car manufacturer, which has been in affiliation with the European Tour, will sponsor the 1.8-million-Euro event for the second consecutive year in 2011. However, this is not all. Volvo will give away its SUV XC60 to the player
who shoots the first hole-in-one on the 11th hole and the luxury Sedan S60 to the one who would successfully hole-in-one the 16th hole.
The purpose of the give-away prizes is to promote the new cars and golf in the region.
Paul expressed his company’s agenda and added, “Golf as a profession has gained a great thrust in recent times. Today India is being represented by enviable players in the global arena. With continued endeavour, India is not far behind from becoming a mainstream
golfing destination globally.”
The event, which has been tri-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, the European Tour and the Professional Golf Tour of India, will cater a huge field.
The tournament kicks off on 17 February, 2011 and will see Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Thongchai Jaidee, Noh Seung-Yul, Thaworn Wiratchant and Kiradech Aphibarnrat as some of its participants.
The four-day session of the 1.8-million-Euro event will take place at the DLF Golf and Country Club which was designed by Ranjit Nanda Associates and Arnold Palmer. The course is known for its majestic greens, rolling fairways and was nominated for the
Asian Golf Monthly award in 2007 and 2008.
