Golf Women’s Invitational 2010 and Penn State’s performance
The three-day Nittany Lion Women’s Invitational 2010 came to its end on the 3rd of October. The Sunday played event ended with the Penn State holding the top position and the Western Michigan capturing the second spot. The host team, Penn State,
carded a total of 901 with a total of plus 37 in its wake. The team attained its victory by nine strokes over the team Michigan. For the WMU broncos, this is their third best finish which is in the top ten indexes.
A senior golfer from Bronco carded a fairly low score to be marked as the second best in the history of this program. Britney Hamilton played a brilliant 68, hence carding a total of minus 4 in the event. She finished at fourth place at the leaderboard with
a tie.
Hamilton’s game reached its brilliance at the last two holes of the Women’s Invitational after starting her day from the 2nd hole. At the 18th hole the golfer achieved an amazing Eagle, which received loud cheers from the crowd. She
achieved her birdie first when her drive had tricked the ball to land behind a tree. Her birdie shot had to be played with a fair amount of risk but that didn’t fade Hamilton. She played her shot with a 54-degree wedge and sent the ball around the tree. The
shot was sent to a good 15 feet and then submerged her putt.
The only person who played better than this golfer is Stephanie Donkin from the year 2004. The Cardinal Classic from Donkin’s year saw this player carding a 66 in R1. The 6 under par score by Donkin is one of the best in the WMU golf program with Hamilton
now trailing with her minus 4.
Britney Hamilton finished her game on a T 4 with a total score of 221 and a plus 5. Her score upon dissection displayed 74, 79 and then her record trailing 68 in the three rounds.
News from the State College tells that team Penn State posted a 301 in its third round of the tournament on Sunday. In its first and second round, the team carded a remarkable 295 and then a 305 in its R 2.
The score attained by Penn state is the fourth best in its school’s history, as the last 901 was recorded in the year 2003 at the same Invitational. Since 2006, this is Penn State’s first Lion Invitational win, and the first tournament win since 2008 Bucknell
Invitational.
The team had some amazing individuals carding brilliant scores like Emily Ransone and Hanule Seo. From Ohio, Ransone finished her game at the second place by carding a score of 219 with a 3 up. The female golfer scored a 72 and a 76 in her beginning two
rounds but caught the grip of the tournament with a 71 in the last round. The score of 71 is one of sophomore’s career best rounds. Seo form St. Louis was just a notch behind the sophomore Ransone. The golfer played a good 229 in the event with a plus 13 in
total. She carded scores of 79, 74 and then a 76 in three rounds of the Invitational.
The Western Michigan, after landing on the second place at the tournament, charged the event with their best player Fabia Rothenfluh. Rothenfluh played a remarkable 218 with a plus 2. The player from Rollins won the tournament by carding 73, 73 and then
72.
Team Michigan has a total of two weeks to prepare for its next event. The team will be heading to Ohio for the MAC preview 2010 held at the Longaberger Golf Club, which will be held on April.
